So he left Asaph and his brothers there before the ark of the covenant of the Lord to minister before the ark regularly, as every day’s work required;and Obed-Edom with his sixty-eight brethren, including Obed-Edom the son of Jeduthun, and Hosah, to be gatekeepers;and Zadok the priest and his brethren the priests, before the tabernacle of the Lord at the high place that was at Gibeon,to offer burnt offerings to the Lord on the altar of burnt offering regularly morning and evening, and to do according to all that is written in the Law of the Lord which He commanded Israel;and with them Heman and Jeduthun and the rest who were chosen, who were designated by name, to give thanks to the Lord, because His mercy endures forever;and with them Heman and Jeduthun, to sound aloud with trumpets and cymbals and the musical instruments of God. Now the sons of Jeduthun were gatekeepers.

Remember His marvelous works which He has done, His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth,

Then David with Zadok of the sons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, divided them according to the schedule of their service.

For by the last words of David the Levites were numbered from twenty years old and above;because their duty was to help the sons of Aaron in the service of the house of the Lord, in the courts and in the chambers, in the purifying of all holy things and the work of the service of the house of God,both with the showbread and the fine flour for the grain offering, with the unleavened cakes and what is baked in the pan, with what is mixed and with all kinds of measures and sizes;to stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord, and likewise at evening;and at every presentation of a burnt offering to the Lord on the Sabbaths and on the New Moons and on the set feasts, by number according to the ordinance governing them, regularly before the Lord;and that they should attend to the needs of the tabernacle of meeting, the needs of the holy place, and the needs of the sons of Aaron their brethren in the work of the house of the Lord.

Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits:

Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, Who only does wondrous things!

Then David spoke to the leaders of the Levites to appoint their brethren to be the singers accompanied by instruments of music, stringed instruments, harps, and cymbals, by raising the voice with resounding joy.

And He said,“ Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.”

Oh, give thanks to the Lord! Call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples!

And he said:“ Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who spoke with His mouth to my father David, and with His hand has fulfilled it, saying,

And he gathered together all the leaders of Israel, with the priests and the Levites.Now the Levites were numbered from the age of thirty years and above; and the number of individual males was thirty-eight thousand.Of these, twenty-four thousand were to look after the work of the house of the Lord, six thousand were officers and judges,four thousand were gatekeepers, and four thousand praised the Lord with musical instruments,“ which I made,” said David,“ for giving praise.”Also David separated them into divisions among the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

Then the Lord said to Aaron:“ You and your sons and your father’s house with you shall bear the iniquity related to the sanctuary, and you and your sons with you shall bear the iniquity associated with your priesthood.Also bring with you your brethren of the tribe of Levi, the tribe of your father, that they may be joined with you and serve you while you and your sons are with you before the tabernacle of witness.They shall attend to your needs and all the needs of the tabernacle; but they shall not come near the articles of the sanctuary and the altar, lest they die— they and you also.They shall be joined with you and attend to the needs of the tabernacle of meeting, for all the work of the tabernacle; but an outsider shall not come near you.And you shall attend to the duties of the sanctuary and the duties of the altar, that there may be no more wrath on the children of Israel.Behold, I Myself have taken your brethren the Levites from among the children of Israel; they are a gift to you, given by the Lord, to do the work of the tabernacle of meeting.

Make haste, O God, to deliver me! Make haste to help me, O Lord!

Do not fret because of evildoers, Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity.

Then he erected an altar there and called it El Elohe Israel.

I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; They shall never hold their peace day or night. You who make mention of the Lord, do not keep silent,And give Him no rest till He establishes And till He makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth.
