Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom,

Jews require signs. Greeks look for wisdom.

For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom,

It is foolish to the Jews, who ask for signs from heaven. And it is foolish to the Greeks, who seek human wisdom.

For the Jews ask for signs and the Greeks seek wisdom,

For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom;

For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom;

Then certain of the scribes and Pharisees answered him, saying, Teacher, we would see a sign from thee.But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it but the sign of Jonah the prophet:

And certain also of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encountered him. And some said, What would this babbler say? others, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached Jesus and the resurrection.And they took hold of him, and brought him unto the Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new teaching is, which is spoken by thee?For thou bringest certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean.( Now all the Athenians and the strangers sojourning there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell or to hear some new thing.)

And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and trying him asked him to show them a sign from heaven.But he answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the heaven is red.And in the morning, It will be foul weather to- day: for the heaven is red and lowering. Ye know how to discern the face of the heaven; but ye cannot discern the signs of the times.An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of Jonah. And he left them, and departed.

And others, trying him, sought of him a sign from heaven.

And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, trying him.

The Jews therefore answered and said unto him, What sign showest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?

But if I by the finger of God cast out demons, then is the kingdom of God come upon you.
