Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom,

Jews require signs. Greeks look for wisdom.

For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom,

It is foolish to the Jews, who ask for signs from heaven. And it is foolish to the Greeks, who seek human wisdom.

For the Jews ask for signs and the Greeks seek wisdom,

For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom;

Seeing that Jews ask for signs, and Greeks seek after wisdom:

Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to Him,“ Teacher, we want to see a sign from You.”But He answered and said to them,“ An evil and adulterous generation craves a sign; and so no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah the prophet;

And some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers as well were conversing with him. Some were saying,“ What could this scavenger of tidbits want to say?” Others,“ He seems to be a proclaimer of strange deities,”— because he was preaching Jesus and the resurrection.And they took him and brought him to the Areopagus, saying,“ May we know what this new teaching is which you are proclaiming?For you are bringing some strange things to our ears; so we want to know what these things mean.”( Now all the Athenians and the strangers visiting there used to spend their time in nothing other than telling or hearing something new.)

The Pharisees and Sadducees came up, and putting Jesus to the test, they asked Him to show them a sign from heaven.But He replied to them,“ When it is evening, you say,‘ It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’And in the morning,‘ There will be a storm today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ You know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but are you unable to discern the signs of the times?An evil and adulterous generation wants a sign; and so a sign will not be given to it, except the sign of Jonah.” And He left them and went away.

Others, to test Him, were demanding of Him a sign from heaven.

And the Pharisees came out and began to argue with Him, demanding from Him a sign from heaven, to test Him.

The Jews then said to Him,“ What sign do You show us as your authority for doing these things?”

But if I cast out the demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.

So the woman left her waterpot and went into the city, and* said to the people,
