Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom,

Jews require signs. Greeks look for wisdom.

For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom,

It is foolish to the Jews, who ask for signs from heaven. And it is foolish to the Greeks, who seek human wisdom.

For the Jews ask for signs and the Greeks seek wisdom,

For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom;

For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom;

Then some of the experts in the law along with some Pharisees answered him,“ Teacher, we want to see a sign from you.”But he answered them,“ An evil and adulterous generation asks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.

Also some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers were conversing with him, and some were asking,“ What does this foolish babbler want to say?” Others said,“ He seems to be a proclaimer of foreign gods.”( They said this because he was proclaiming the good news about Jesus and the resurrection.)So they took Paul and brought him to the Areopagus, saying,“ May we know what this new teaching is that you are proclaiming?For you are bringing some surprising things to our ears, so we want to know what they mean.”( All the Athenians and the foreigners who lived there used to spend their time in nothing else than telling or listening to something new.)

Now when the Pharisees and Sadducees came to test Jesus, they asked him to show them a sign from heaven.He said,“ When evening comes you say,‘ It will be fair weather, because the sky is red,’and in the morning,‘ It will be stormy today, because the sky is red and darkening.’ You know how to judge correctly the appearance of the sky, but you cannot evaluate the signs of the times.A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah.” Then he left them and went away.

Others, to test him, began asking for a sign from heaven.

Then the Pharisees came and began to argue with Jesus, asking for a sign from heaven to test him.

So then the Jewish leaders responded,“ What sign can you show us, since you are doing these things?”

But if I cast out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has already overtaken you.

Then the woman left her water jar, went off into the town and said to the people,
