Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom,

Jews require signs. Greeks look for wisdom.

For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom,

It is foolish to the Jews, who ask for signs from heaven. And it is foolish to the Greeks, who seek human wisdom.

For the Jews ask for signs and the Greeks seek wisdom,

For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom;

Seeing that Jews ask for signs, and Greeks seek after wisdom:

Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered, saying,“ Teacher, we want to see a sign from You.”But He answered and said to them,“ An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.

Then certain Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encountered him. And some said,“ What does this babbler want to say?” Others said,“ He seems to be a proclaimer of foreign gods,” because he preached to them Jesus and the resurrection.And they took him and brought him to the Areopagus, saying,“ May we know what this new doctrine is of which you speak?For you are bringing some strange things to our ears. Therefore we want to know what these things mean.”For all the Athenians and the foreigners who were there spent their time in nothing else but either to tell or to hear some new thing.

Then the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing Him asked that He would show them a sign from heaven.He answered and said to them,“ When it is evening you say,‘ It will be fair weather, for the sky is red’;and in the morning,‘ It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times.A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.” And He left them and departed.

Others, testing Him, sought from Him a sign from heaven.

Then the Pharisees came out and began to dispute with Him, seeking from Him a sign from heaven, testing Him.

So the Jews answered and said to Him,“ What sign do You show to us, since You do these things?”

But if I cast out demons with the finger of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you.

The woman then left her waterpot, went her way into the city, and said to the men,
