you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?

Working together with him, then, we appeal to you not to receive the grace of God in vain.

rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.

“ I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you.Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned.If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.

And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by accompanying signs.

Then he said to his disciples,“ The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few;

Do you not say,‘ There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest.Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together.For here the saying holds true,‘ One sows and another reaps.’I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.”

This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone.

And he said,“ The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground.He sleeps and rises night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows; he knows not how.The earth produces by itself, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear.But when the grain is ripe, at once he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.”

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,

What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said,“ I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

if I delay, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and buttress of the truth.

And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

For as the earth brings forth its sprouts, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to sprout up, so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to sprout up before all the nations.

I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth.

to grant to those who mourn in Zion— to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified.

And he told them many things in parables, saying:“ A sower went out to sow.And as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them.Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and immediately they sprang up, since they had no depth of soil,but when the sun rose they were scorched. And since they had no root, they withered away.Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them.Other seeds fell on good soil and produced grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.He who has ears, let him hear.”

And when he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came up to him as he was teaching, and said,“ By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?”Jesus answered them,“ I also will ask you one question, and if you tell me the answer, then I also will tell you by what authority I do these things.The baptism of John, from where did it come? From heaven or from man?” And they discussed it among themselves, saying,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will say to us,‘ Why then did you not believe him?’But if we say,‘ From man,’ we are afraid of the crowd, for they all hold that John was a prophet.”So they answered Jesus,“ We do not know.” And he said to them,“ Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.“ What do you think? A man had two sons. And he went to the first and said,‘ Son, go and work in the vineyard today.’And he answered,‘ I will not,’ but afterward he changed his mind and went.And he went to the other son and said the same. And he answered,‘ I go, sir,’ but did not go.Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said,“ The first.” Jesus said to them,“ Truly, I say to you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes go into the kingdom of God before you.For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him. And even when you saw it, you did not afterward change your minds and believe him.“ Hear another parable. There was a master of a house who planted a vineyard and put a fence around it and dug a winepress in it and built a tower and leased it to tenants, and went into another country.When the season for fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants to get his fruit.And the tenants took his servants and beat one, killed another, and stoned another.Again he sent other servants, more than the first. And they did the same to them.Finally he sent his son to them, saying,‘ They will respect my son.’But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves,‘ This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and have his inheritance.’And they took him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.When therefore the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?”They said to him,“ He will put those wretches to a miserable death and let out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their seasons.”Jesus said to them,“ Have you never read in the Scriptures:“‘ The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; this was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people producing its fruits.And the one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; and when it falls on anyone, it will crush him.”

You brought a vine out of Egypt; you drove out the nations and planted it.You cleared the ground for it; it took deep root and filled the land.The mountains were covered with its shade, the mighty cedars with its branches.It sent out its branches to the sea and its shoots to the River.

You visit the earth and water it; you greatly enrich it; the river of God is full of water; you provide their grain, for so you have prepared it.You water its furrows abundantly, settling its ridges, softening it with showers, and blessing its growth.You crown the year with your bounty; your wagon tracks overflow with abundance.The pastures of the wilderness overflow, the hills gird themselves with joy,the meadows clothe themselves with flocks, the valleys deck themselves with grain, they shout and sing together for joy.

And say to him,‘ Thus says the Lord of hosts,“ Behold, the man whose name is the Branch: for he shall branch out from his place, and he shall build the temple of the Lord.It is he who shall build the temple of the Lord and shall bear royal honor, and shall sit and rule on his throne. And there shall be a priest on his throne, and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.”’

Does he who plows for sowing plow continually? Does he continually open and harrow his ground?When he has leveled its surface, does he not scatter dill, sow cumin, and put in wheat in rows and barley in its proper place, and emmer as the border?For he is rightly instructed; his God teaches him.Dill is not threshed with a threshing sledge, nor is a cart wheel rolled over cumin, but dill is beaten out with a stick, and cumin with a rod.Does one crush grain for bread? No, he does not thresh it forever; when he drives his cart wheel over it with his horses, he does not crush it.This also comes from the Lord of hosts; he is wonderful in counsel and excellent in wisdom.

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Then he left the crowd and went into the house. His disciples came to him and said,“ Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.”He answered,“ The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man.The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the people of the kingdom. The weeds are the people of the evil one,and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.“ As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age.The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil.They will throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; (niv)

“ In that day I will restore David’s fallen shelter— I will repair its broken walls and restore its ruins— and will rebuild it as it used to be,so that they may possess the remnant of Edom and all the nations that bear my name,” declares the Lord, who will do these things. (niv)

But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory. (niv)

May grain abound throughout the land; on the tops of the hills may it sway. May the crops flourish like Lebanon and thrive like the grass of the field. (niv)

In that day—“ Sing about a fruitful vineyard:I, the Lord, watch over it; I water it continually. I guard it day and night so that no one may harm it. (niv)

Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself.For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything. (niv)

I will sing for the one I love a song about his vineyard: My loved one had a vineyard on a fertile hillside.He dug it up and cleared it of stones and planted it with the choicest vines. He built a watchtower in it and cut out a winepress as well. Then he looked for a crop of good grapes, but it yielded only bad fruit.“ Now you dwellers in Jerusalem and people of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard.What more could have been done for my vineyard than I have done for it? When I looked for good grapes, why did it yield only bad?Now I will tell you what I am going to do to my vineyard: I will take away its hedge, and it will be destroyed; I will break down its wall, and it will be trampled.I will make it a wasteland, neither pruned nor cultivated, and briers and thorns will grow there. I will command the clouds not to rain on it.”The vineyard of the Lord Almighty is the nation of Israel, and the people of Judah are the vines he delighted in. And he looked for justice, but saw bloodshed; for righteousness, but heard cries of distress. (niv)

“ For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard.He agreed to pay them a denarius for the day and sent them into his vineyard.“ About nine in the morning he went out and saw others standing in the marketplace doing nothing.He told them,‘ You also go and work in my vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.’So they went.“ He went out again about noon and about three in the afternoon and did the same thing.About five in the afternoon he went out and found still others standing around. He asked them,‘ Why have you been standing here all day long doing nothing?’“‘ Because no one has hired us,’ they answered.“ He said to them,‘ You also go and work in my vineyard.’“ When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman,‘ Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first.’“ The workers who were hired about five in the afternoon came and each received a denarius.So when those came who were hired first, they expected to receive more. But each one of them also received a denarius.When they received it, they began to grumble against the landowner.‘ These who were hired last worked only one hour,’ they said,‘ and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat of the day.’“ But he answered one of them,‘ I am not being unfair to you, friend. Didn’t you agree to work for a denarius?Take your pay and go. I want to give the one who was hired last the same as I gave you. (niv)

Strangers will shepherd your flocks; foreigners will work your fields and vineyards. (niv)

I had planted you like a choice vine of sound and reliable stock. How then did you turn against me into a corrupt, wild vine? (niv)

how blessed you will be, sowing your seed by every stream, and letting your cattle and donkeys range free. (niv)

“ Listen then to what the parable of the sower means:When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path.The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy.But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful.But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”Jesus told them another parable:“ The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field.But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away.When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared.“ The owner’s servants came to him and said,‘ Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?’“‘ An enemy did this,’ he replied.“ The servants asked him,‘ Do you want us to go and pull them up?’“‘ No,’ he answered,‘ because while you are pulling the weeds, you may uproot the wheat with them.Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.’” (niv)
