So they wore sackcloth around their waists and put ropes around their heads, and came to the king of Israel and said,“ Your servant Ben-Hadad says,‘ Please let me live.’” And he said,“ Is he still alive? He is my brother.”

遂束麻於腰、繫索於首、詣以色列王曰、爾僕便哈達云、請存我命、曰、彼尚在乎、我兄弟也、

遂衣麻於身。繫索於項、至以色列王前曰、爾臣便哈達云、請宥我命、曰、我兄弟尚在乎。

遂腰束麻、項繫繩、至以色列王前、曰、王之僕便哈達云、求王存我命、曰、彼若尚存、我必以兄相待、

Wearing sackcloth around their waists and ropes around their heads, they went to the king of Israel and said,“ Your servant Ben-Hadad says:‘ Please let me live.’” The king answered,“ Is he still alive? He is my brother.”

So they wore rough clothing. They tied ropes around their heads. Then they went to the king of Israel. They told him,“ Your servant Ben- Hadad says,‘ Please let me live.’ ” The king answered,“ Is he still alive? He used to be my friend.”

So they tied sackcloth around their waists and put ropes on their heads and went to the king of Israel and said,“ Your servant Ben-hadad says,‘ Please, let me live.’” And he said,“ Does he still live? He is my brother.”

So they put on burlap and ropes, and they went to the king of Israel and begged,“ Your servant Ben hadad says,‘ Please let me live!’” The king of Israel responded,“ Is he still alive? He is my brother!”

So they dressed with sackcloth around their waists and ropes around their heads, went to the king of Israel, and said,“ Your servant Ben-hadad says,‘ Please spare my life.’” So he said,“ Is he still alive? He is my brother.”

So they put sackcloth around their waists and ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel and said,“ Your servant Ben hadad says,‘ Please let me live.’ ” And Ahab said,“ Is he still alive? He is my brother.”

So they girded sackcloth on their loins, and put ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Thy servant Ben- hadad saith, I pray thee, let me live. And he said, Is he yet alive? he is my brother.

So they dressed with sackcloth around their waists and ropes around their heads, went to the king of Israel, and said,“ Your servant Ben-hadad says,‘ Please spare my life.’” So he said,“ Is he still alive? He is my brother.”

So they girded sackcloth on their loins, and[ put] ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Thy servant Benhadad saith, I pray thee, let me live. And he said,[ Is] he yet alive? he[ is] my brother.

So they put sackcloth around their waists and ropes on their heads and went to the king of Israel. They said,“ Your servant Ben Hadad says,‘ Please let me live!’” Ahab replied,“ Is he still alive? He is my brother.”

So they put sackcloth on their bodies and ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said,“ Your servant Ben Hadad says,‘ Please let me live.’” He said,“ Is he still alive? He is my brother.”

‘ Your silver and your gold are mine; your loveliest wives and children are mine.’”And the king of Israel answered and said,“ My Lord, O king, just as you say, I and all that I have are yours.”Then the messengers came back and said,“ Thus speaks Ben-Hadad, saying,‘ Indeed I have sent to you, saying,“ You shall deliver to me your silver and your gold, your wives and your children”;but I will send my servants to you tomorrow about this time, and they shall search your house and the houses of your servants. And it shall be, that whatever is pleasant in your eyes, they will put it in their hands and take it.’”

The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, The haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, And the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day.For the day of the Lord of hosts Shall come upon everything proud and lofty, Upon everything lifted up— And it shall be brought low—

But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit was hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him.Then he was driven from the sons of men, his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys. They fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till he knew that the Most High God rules in the kingdom of men, and appoints over it whomever He chooses.“ But you his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, although you knew all this.And you have lifted yourself up against the Lord of heaven. They have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you and your lords, your wives and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, bronze and iron, wood and stone, which do not see or hear or know; and the God who holds your breath in His hand and owns all your ways, you have not glorified.

The pride of your heart has deceived you, You who dwell in the clefts of the rock, Whose habitation is high; You who say in your heart,‘ Who will bring me down to the ground?’Though you ascend as high as the eagle, And though you set your nest among the stars, From there I will bring you down,” says the Lord.

Then he said to him,“ Thus says the Lord:‘ Because you have let slip out of your hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore your life shall go for his life, and your people for his people.’”

He also took Agag king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep, the oxen, the fatlings, the lambs, and all that was good, and were unwilling to utterly destroy them. But everything despised and worthless, that they utterly destroyed.Now the word of the Lord came to Samuel, saying,“ I greatly regret that I have set up Saul as king, for he has turned back from following Me, and has not performed My commandments.” And it grieved Samuel, and he cried out to the Lord all night.So when Samuel rose early in the morning to meet Saul, it was told Samuel, saying,“ Saul went to Carmel, and indeed, he set up a monument for himself; and he has gone on around, passed by, and gone down to Gilgal.”Then Samuel went to Saul, and Saul said to him,“ Blessed are you of the Lord! I have performed the commandment of the Lord.”But Samuel said,“ What then is this bleating of the sheep in my ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?”And Saul said,“ They have brought them from the Amalekites; for the people spared the best of the sheep and the oxen, to sacrifice to the Lord your God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.”Then Samuel said to Saul,“ Be quiet! And I will tell you what the Lord said to me last night.” And he said to him,“ Speak on.”So Samuel said,“ When you were little in your own eyes, were you not head of the tribes of Israel? And did not the Lord anoint you king over Israel?Now the Lord sent you on a mission, and said,‘ Go, and utterly destroy the sinners, the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are consumed.’Why then did you not obey the voice of the Lord? Why did you swoop down on the spoil, and do evil in the sight of the Lord?”And Saul said to Samuel,“ But I have obeyed the voice of the Lord, and gone on the mission on which the Lord sent me, and brought back Agag king of Amalek; I have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.

Disperse the rage of your wrath; Look on everyone who is proud, and humble him.Look on everyone who is proud, and bring him low; Tread down the wicked in their place.

Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Lord has performed all His work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, that He will say,“ I will punish the fruit of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his haughty looks.”

He leads counselors away plundered, And makes fools of the judges.He loosens the bonds of kings, And binds their waist with a belt.

Then his servants said to him,“ Look now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings. Please, let us put sackcloth around our waists and ropes around our heads, and go out to the king of Israel; perhaps he will spare your life.”
