And as the king passed by, he cried out to the king and said,“ Your servant went out into the midst of the battle; and behold, a man turned aside and brought a man to me and said,‘ Guard this man; if for any reason he goes missing, then your life shall be forfeited in place of his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.’

As the king passed by, the prophet called out to him,“ Your servant went into the thick of the battle, and someone came to me with a captive and said,‘ Guard this man. If he is missing, it will be your life for his life, or you must pay a talent of silver.’

The king passed by. Then the prophet called out to him. He said,“ I went into the middle of the battle. Someone came to me with a prisoner. He said,‘ Guard this man. Don’t let him get away. If he does, you will pay for his life with yours. Or you can pay 75 pounds of silver.’

And as the king passed, he cried to the king and said,“ Your servant went out into the midst of the battle, and behold, a soldier turned and brought a man to me and said,‘ Guard this man; if by any means he is missing, your life shall be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.’

As the king passed by, the prophet called out to him,“ Sir, I was in the thick of battle, and suddenly a man brought me a prisoner. He said,‘ Guard this man; if for any reason he gets away, you will either die or pay a fine of seventy five pounds of silver!’

As the king was passing by, he cried out to the king and said,“ Your servant marched out into the middle of the battle. Suddenly, a man turned aside and brought someone to me and said,‘ Guard this man! If he is ever missing, it will be your life in place of his life, or you will weigh out seventy-five pounds of silver.’

Now as the king passed by, he cried out to the king and said,“ Your servant went out into the midst of the battle; and there, a man came over and brought a man to me, and said,‘ Guard this man; if by any means he is missing, your life shall be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.’

And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king; and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver.

As the king was passing by, he cried out to the king and said,“ Your servant marched out into the middle of the battle. When the king passed by, he called out to the king,“ Your servant went out into the heat of the battle, and then a man turned aside and brought me a prisoner. He told me,‘ Guard this prisoner. If he ends up missing for any reason, you will pay with your life or with a talent of silver.’

As the king passed by, he cried to the king; and he said,“ Your servant went out into the middle of the battle; and behold, a man came over, and brought a man to me, and said,‘ Guard this man! If by any means he is missing, then your life shall be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.’

Then they entered to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now Jehu had stationed for himself eighty men outside, and he had said,“ The one who allows any of the men whom I bring into your hands to escape shall give up his life in exchange.”

Beware that wrath does not entice you to mockery; And do not let the greatness of the ransom turn you aside.

And He began to speak to them in parables:“ A man planted a vineyard and put a fence around it, and dug a vat under the wine press and built a tower, and leased it to vine growers and went on a journey.And at the harvest time he sent a slave to the vine growers, in order to receive his share of the produce of the vineyard from the vine growers.And they took him, and beat him, and sent him away empty handed.And again he sent them another slave, and they wounded him in the head, and treated him shamefully.And he sent another, and that one they killed; and so with many others, beating some and killing others.He had one more man to send, a beloved son; he sent him to them last of all, saying,‘ They will respect my son.’But those vine growers said to one another,‘ This is the heir; come, let’s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours!’And they took him and killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard.What will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and put the vine growers to death, and give the vineyard to others.Have you not even read this Scripture:‘ A stone which the builders rejected, This has become the chief cornerstone;This came about from the Lord, And it is marvelous in our eyes’?”And they were seeking to seize Him, and yet they feared the people, for they understood that He told the parable against them. And so they left Him and went away.

Then the Lord sent Nathan to David. And he came to him and said,“ There were two men in a city, the one wealthy and the other poor.The wealthy man had a great many flocks and herds.But the poor man had nothing at all except one little ewe lamb Which he bought and nurtured; And it grew up together with him and his children. It would eat scraps from him and drink from his cup and lie in his lap, And was like a daughter to him.Now a visitor came to the wealthy man, And he could not bring himself to take any animal from his own flock or his own herd, To prepare for the traveler who had come to him; So he took the poor man’s ewe lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him.”Then David’s anger burned greatly against the man, and he said to Nathan,“ As the Lord lives, the man who has done this certainly deserves to die!So he must make restitution for the lamb four times over, since he did this thing and had no compassion.”Nathan then said to David,“ You yourself are the man! This is what the Lord, the God of Israel says:‘ It is I who anointed you as king over Israel, and it is I who rescued you from the hand of Saul.

He will not accept any settlement, Nor will he be satisfied though you make it a large gift.

If a ransom is demanded of him, then he shall give for the redemption of his life whatever is demanded of him.

No one can by any means redeem another Or give God a ransom for him—

And the king said to her,“ What is troubling you?” And she answered,“ Truly I am a widow, for my husband is dead.And your servant had two sons, but the two of them fought in the field, and there was no one to save them from each other, so one struck the other and killed him.Now behold, the entire family has risen against your servant, and they have said,‘ Hand over the one who struck his brother, so that we may put him to death for the life of his brother whom he killed, and eliminate the heir as well.’ So they will extinguish my coal which is left, so as to leave my husband neither name nor remnant on the face of the earth.”

Now when they told Jotham, he went and stood on the top of Mount Gerizim, and raised his voice and called out. And he said to them,“ Listen to me, you leaders of Shechem, that God may listen to you.Once the trees went to anoint a king over them, and they said to the olive tree,‘ Reign over us!’But the olive tree said to them,‘ Shall I give up my fatness with which God and mankind are honored, and go to wave over the trees?’Then the trees said to the fig tree,‘ You, come, reign over us!’But the fig tree said to them,‘ Shall I give up my sweetness and my good fruit, and go to wave over the trees?’Then the trees said to the vine,‘ You, come, reign over us!’But the vine said to them,‘ Shall I give up my new wine, which cheers God and mankind, and go to wave over the trees?’Then all the trees said to the bramble,‘ You, come, reign over us!’And the bramble said to the trees,‘ If you really are anointing me as king over you, come and take refuge in my shade; but if not, may fire come out of the bramble and consume the cedars of Lebanon.’“ Now then, if you have acted with honesty and integrity in making Abimelech king, and if you have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have dealt with him as he deserved—for my father fought for you, and risked his life and saved you from the hand of Midian;but in fact you have risen against my father’s house today and have killed his sons, seventy men, on one stone, and have made Abimelech, the son of his female slave, king over the leaders of Shechem, because he is your relative—so if you have acted with honesty and integrity toward Jerubbaal and his house this day, be joyful about Abimelech, and may he also be joyful about you.But if not, may fire come out of Abimelech and consume the leaders of Shechem and Beth millo; and may fire come out of the leaders of Shechem and from Beth millo, and consume Abimelech.”

And the prophet said to him,“ This is what the Lord says:‘ Since you have let go from your hand the man I had designated for destruction, your life shall be forfeited in place of his life, and your people in place of his people.’ ”

The ransom of a person’s life is his wealth, But the poor hears no rebuke.

knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers,but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.
