既废了扫罗，就选立大卫作他们的王，又为他作见证说：‘我寻得耶西的儿子大卫，他是合我心意的人，凡事要遵行我的旨意。’

撒母耳对他说：“如此，今日耶和华使以色列国与你断绝，将这国赐与比你更好的人。

当时，你在异象中晓谕你的圣民，说：“我已把救助之力加在那有能者的身上；我高举那从民中所拣选的。我寻得我的仆人大卫，用我的圣膏膏他。我的手必使他坚立；我的膀臂也必坚固他。仇敌必不勒索他；凶恶之子也不苦害他。我要在他面前打碎他的敌人，击杀那恨他的人。只是我的信实和我的慈爱要与他同在；因我的名，他的角必被高举。我要使他的左手伸到海上，右手伸到河上。他要称呼我说：‘你是我的父，是我的神，是拯救我的磐石。’我也要立他为长子，为世上最高的君王。我要为他存留我的慈爱，直到永远；我与他立的约必要坚定。我也要使他的后裔存到永远，使他的宝座如天之久。“倘若他的子孙离弃我的律法，不照我的典章行，背弃我的律例，不遵守我的诫命，我就要用杖责罚他们的过犯，用鞭责罚他们的罪孽。只是我必不将我的慈爱全然收回，也必不叫我的信实废弃。我必不背弃我的约，也不改变我口中所出的。我一次指着自己的圣洁起誓：我决不向大卫说谎！他的后裔要存到永远；他的宝座在我面前如日之恒一般，又如月亮永远坚立，如天上确实的见证。”细拉

因此，耶和华以色列的神说：‘我曾说，你和你父家必永远行在我面前；现在我却说，决不容你们这样行。因为尊重我的，我必重看他；藐视我的，他必被轻视。

“你回去告诉我民的君希西家说：耶和华你祖大卫的神如此说：‘我听见了你的祷告，看见了你的眼泪，我必医治你；到第三日，你必上到耶和华的殿。

耶西就打发人去叫了他来。他面色光红，双目清秀，容貌俊美。耶和华说：“这就是他，你起来膏他。”

“明日这时候，我必使一个人从便雅悯地到你这里来，你要膏他作我民以色列的君。他必救我民脱离非利士人的手；因我民的哀声上达于我，我就眷顾他们。”

但我的慈爱仍不离开他，像离开在你面前所废弃的扫罗一样。你的家和你的国必在我面前永远坚立。你的国位也必坚定，直到永远。’”

原来那为万物所属、为万物所本的，要领许多的儿子进荣耀里去，使救他们的元帅，因受苦难得以完全，本是合宜的。

大卫在神面前蒙恩，祈求为雅各的神预备居所；

从前扫罗作我们王的时候，率领以色列人出入的是你；耶和华也曾应许你说：‘你必牧养我的民以色列，作以色列的君。’”

耶和华对撒母耳说：“我既厌弃扫罗作以色列的王，你为他悲伤要到几时呢？你将膏油盛满了角，我差遣你往伯利恒人耶西那里去；因为我在他众子之内，预定一个作王的。”
