以利亞對眾民說：『你們湊近前來』；眾民就湊近前去。他便修理修理已經翻毁了的、永恆主的祭壇。以利亞取了十二塊石頭，照雅各子孫族派的數目：這雅各是永恆主的話曾傳與他說：「你的名要叫以色列」的那人。以利亞奉永恆主耶和華的名將這些石頭築座祭壇；在壇的四圍作了水溝，可容穀種二細亞。他又擺好了柴，把公牛切成塊子，放在柴上；又說：『盛滿了四桶水，倒在燔祭上和柴上』；又說：『倒第二次』；他們就倒第二次；又說：『倒第三次』；他們就倒第三次；水都流在祭壇的四圍了，他也使溝裏倒滿了水。在獻上素祭的時候、神言人以利亞湊近前去、說：『亞伯拉罕、以撒、以色列的上帝永恆主啊，求你今天使人知道你乃是以色列中的上帝，而我是你的僕人，又是奉你吩咐的話行這一切事的。永恆主啊，應允我，應允我；求你使這人民知道你永恆主乃是上帝，又知道是你使這人民的心回轉過來的。』於是永恆主的火便降下來，燒盡了燔祭、木柴、石頭、塵土，又把溝裏的水都餂燒乾了。

他說：「求你容我去；因為我們家在城裏有獻祭的事；我哥哥吩咐我去。如今我若得到你顧愛，求你容我溜走去見我哥哥。」因此大衛就沒有來赴王的筵席。』

你只要給我造土壇，在上面祭獻你的燔祭和平安祭、你的羊和牛；凡我使人記念我名的各地方，我都要到你那裏賜福與你。
