耶利米就對他們說：“你們要對西底家這樣說：‘耶和華以色列的神這樣說：看哪！我必使你們手中的武器，就是你們用來與城外圍困你們的巴比倫王和迦勒底人作戰的武器，轉回堆積在這城的中心。我必在怒氣、烈怒和忿怒中，用伸出來的手和強有力的膀臂，親自攻擊你們。我要擊打住在這城的人和牲畜，他們都要因極大的瘟疫而死。然後，我必把猶大王西底家和他的臣民，就是在這城裡經過瘟疫、刀劍之災和饑荒而倖存的人，都交在巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒和他們的仇敵，以及尋索他們性命的人的手中。尼布甲尼撒要用刀劍擊殺他們，絕不顧惜，不留情，不憐憫。’”這是耶和華的宣告。

“耶和華以色列的神這樣說：你們要對差派你們來求問我的猶大王這樣說：‘看哪！那出來幫助你們的法老的軍隊，必回到他們的埃及本地去。迦勒底人必回來，攻擊這城，佔領這城，放火燒毀這城。’耶和華這樣說：你們不要自己欺騙自己，說：‘迦勒底人必定離開我們！’因為他們必不離開。即使你們擊敗了那攻打你們的迦勒底全軍，他們中間只剩下一些受重傷的人，他們也必各從自己的帳棚裡起來，放火燒毀這城。’”

她對他們說：“耶和華以色列的神這樣說：‘告訴那差你們到我這裡來的人說：耶和華這樣說：看哪，我要照著猶大王所念那書卷上所有的話，使災禍降臨在這地方和它的居民身上，因為他們背棄了我，向別的神焚香。他們所行的一切都使我發怒，因此我的怒火要在這地方燃點，不會熄滅。至於那差你們來求問耶和華的猶大王，你們要這樣對他說：耶和華以色列的神這樣說：有關你所聽見的話，你聽見我攻擊這地方和它的居民的話，就是他們要成為荒涼，受咒詛，你的心就順服，在我面前謙卑，又撕裂自己的衣服，在我面前哀哭，我已經聽到了。這是耶和華的宣告。因此，看哪，我要使你歸到你的祖先那裡，你必平平安安地葬在你的墳墓裡；你不會看見我要降在這地的一切災禍。’”他們就把這話向王回報。
