“他登上了國位的時候，就要把利未支派的祭司面前的律法書，為自己抄錄一份副本。那份副本要常在他身邊，他一生的年日都要誦讀，好學習敬畏耶和華他的神，謹守遵行這律法書上的一切話和這些律例。這樣，他的心就不會高傲，輕看自己的兄弟，也不會偏左偏右，離了這誡命；好使他和他的子孫在以色列中，在他的國位上，可以日子長久。”

“看哪！日子快到（這是耶和華的宣告），我要與以色列家和猶大家訂立新的約。這新約不像從前我拉他們祖先的手，領他們出埃及地的日子，與他們所立的約；我雖然是他們的丈夫，他們卻違背了我的約。”這是耶和華的宣告。

他們也立約，要一心一意尋求耶和華他們列祖的神。不尋求耶和華以色列的神的，無論男女老幼，都必處死。

他又把約書拿過來，念給人民聽；他們說：“耶和華吩咐的一切話，我們都必遵行和聽從。”

希勒家對書記沙番說：“我在耶和華的殿裡發現了律法書。”希勒家就把書交給沙番。

到了七月，以色列人都住在自己的城裡。（《馬索拉文本》以本句為7:73下半節）那時眾民如同一人，在水門前的廣場聚集，請經學家以斯拉把耶和華藉摩西命令以色列人遵守的律法書帶來。七月初一日，以斯拉祭司把律法書帶到所有聽了能明白的男女會眾面前。在水門前面的廣場，從清早到中午，向眾男女和聽了能明白的人宣讀出來。眾民都側耳傾聽這律法書的話。經學家以斯拉站在為這事特製的木臺上；站在他右邊的，有瑪他提雅、示瑪、亞奈雅、烏利亞、希勒家和瑪西雅；站在他左邊的，有毘大雅、米沙利、瑪基雅、哈順、哈拔大拿、撒迦利亞和米書蘭。以斯拉在眾人眼前展開那書卷；他高高地站在眾民以上，他把書卷展開，眾民就站起來。

他作王第三年，就差派他的大臣便．亥伊勒、俄巴底、撒迦利雅、拿坦業、米該亞，到猶大各城去教訓人。和他們同去的，還有示瑪雅、尼探雅、西巴第雅、亞撒黑、示米拉末、約拿單、亞多尼雅、多比雅和駝．巴多尼雅等幾位利未人；又有以利沙瑪和約蘭兩位祭司和他們同去。他們帶著耶和華的律法書，在猶大教訓人；他們走遍猶大各城，在民間教訓人。

傳道者不但有智慧，還將知識教訓眾人；他既揣摩，又查考，也編撰了許多箴言。傳道者搜尋可喜悅的話，正確地寫下真理。

老少尊卑都在那裡，奴僕脫離主人的轄制。

那時所羅門說：“耶和華曾說他要住在幽暗之中。我已經為你建造了巍峨的殿宇，作你永遠居住的地方。”然後王轉過來，給以色列全體會眾祝福，以色列全體會眾都站著。所羅門說：“耶和華以色列的神是應當稱頌的！他親口對我的父親大衛應許的，已親手作成了，他說：‘自從我領我的子民從埃及地出來的那天，我沒有在以色列眾支派中，揀選一座城建造殿宇，使我的名留在那裡；我也沒有揀選一個人作領袖，統治我的子民以色列。我卻揀選了耶路撒冷，使我的名留在那裡；也揀選了大衛，統治我的子民以色列。’我的父親大衛有心要為耶和華以色列的神的名建造殿宇。耶和華卻對我的父親大衛說：‘你心想要為我的名建造殿宇，你心意很好；不過不是由你建造殿宇，而是你的兒子，你親生的兒子，他必為我的名建殿。’現在耶和華實現了他所說過的話，我已經起來接續我的父親大衛，坐上了以色列的王位，就像耶和華所說的；我為耶和華以色列的神的名建造了這殿。我也把約櫃安放在殿裡，約櫃中有耶和華和以色列人所立的約。”

書記沙番又告訴王，說：“希勒家祭司還交給我一卷書卷。”於是沙番在王面前誦讀那書。王一聽見律法書上的話，就撕裂自己的衣服，

審判的時候，不可偏袒人；無論貴賤尊卑，都要一樣地聽訟；不可怕人的情面，因為審判是屬於神的；如果你們遇見難斷的案件，可以呈到我這裡來，讓我審斷。’

王又命令眾民說：“照著這約書上所寫的，守逾越節，記念耶和華你們的神。”

原來亞蘭王曾經吩咐他的戰車隊長說：“無論是大小的將兵，你們都不要和他們交戰，只管攻擊以色列王。”

耶和華這樣說：我要按著在猶大王面前誦讀的那卷書上所寫的一切咒詛，降災在這地和這地的居民身上。
