約西亞手下的眾領袖也自願把祭牲送給人民、祭司和利未人；又有神殿的總管希勒家、撒迦利亞和耶歇，也把羔羊二千六百隻和公牛三百頭，送給祭司作逾越節的祭牲。

利未人把銀櫃抬到王指定負責這事的人那裡的時候，他們看見稅銀很多，王的書記和大祭司的屬員就來把銀櫃倒空，然後抬回原處。天天都是這樣，所以收集了很多銀子。王和耶何耶大把銀子交給耶和華殿的辦事人員，他們就雇了石匠和木匠，重建耶和華的殿，又雇了鐵匠和銅匠，重建耶和華的殿。作工的人不住工作，重修的工程在他們手下順利進行；他們把神的殿重建得和先前一樣，並且非常堅固。他們完工以後，就把剩下的銀子送到王和耶何耶大面前，用來製造耶和華殿裡的器皿、供奉和獻祭所用的器皿、盤子，以及各種金銀器皿。耶何耶大在世的日子，眾人都常在耶和華的殿裡獻燔祭。

他們把獻給耶和華殿的銀子拿出來的時候，希勒家祭司發現了耶和華藉摩西所傳的律法書。希勒家對書記沙番說：“我在耶和華的殿裡發現了律法書。”希勒家就把書交給沙番。

王吩咐希勒家大祭司、副祭司和守殿門的，把所有為巴力、亞舍拉和天上的萬象所製造的器皿，從耶和華殿裡搬出去，在耶路撒冷城外汲淪谷的田野，把它們燒了。然後把它們的灰燼帶到伯特利去。

最後，弟兄們，凡是真實的、莊重的、公正的、純潔的、可愛的、聲譽好的，無論是甚麼美德，甚麼稱讚，這些事你們都應當思念。

這一切都作完了，所有在那裡的以色列人就都出去，到猶大的各城，打碎神柱，砍下亞舍拉；又在猶大、便雅憫、以法蓮和瑪拿西各地，把邱壇和祭壇完全拆毀。然後以色列眾人都各回各城，各歸自己的地業去了。

“你上去到希勒家大祭司那裡，叫他把獻給耶和華殿的銀子，就是守門的從人民所收集的，結算一下。然後要他們把銀子交到在耶和華殿管理工匠的人手中，他們可以把銀子交付在耶和華殿修補破壞的地方的工匠，就是交給木匠、建築工人、石匠，又購買木材和鑿好的石頭，用來修理聖殿破壞的地方。銀子交在他們手中，不用和他們算帳，因為他們辦事誠實。”

吩咐希勒家和沙番的兒子亞希甘、米迦的兒子亞比頓、書記沙番，以及王的臣僕亞撒雅，說：

書記沙番又告訴王，說：“希勒家祭司還交給我一卷書卷。”於是沙番在王面前誦讀那書。

於是希勒家和王所差派的人（《馬索拉文本》沒有“差派的人”）去見女先知戶勒大。戶勒大是掌管禮服的沙龍的妻子；沙龍是哈斯拉的孫子、特瓦的兒子；戶勒大住在耶路撒冷第二區；他們對戶勒大這樣說了。
