We are not trying to commend ourselves to you again, but are giving you an opportunity to take pride in us, so that you can answer those who take pride in what is seen rather than in what is in the heart.

We are not trying to make an appeal to you again. But we are giving you a chance to take pride in us. Some people take pride in their looks rather than what’s in their hearts. If you take pride in us, you will be able to answer them.

顧吾之所以為此、且願守此不渝者、不欲予人以口實、而謂若輩之所誇亦同乎吾儕之所誇耳。若輩偽宗徒冒基督宗徒之名、而行其欺詐之實。然此不足為奇；即沙殫亦嘗冒充光明之天神、則其僕之冒充正義之僕、不亦宜乎！惟若輩必依其所作之孽、而受報應也。吾重復言之、吾非狂誕之人、若必欲視吾為狂誕、即以狂誕見納而不辭、其能容吾稍逞自誇乎！

人之欲以形體之事眩世、而強爾受割禮者、其惟一動機、乃欲避免為基督十字架而被擯於世耳。蓋若輩雖受割禮、自身亦何嘗遵守禮法。其所以欲爾同受割禮者、惟欲借爾之形體、為彼炫耀之資耳。吾則異於是、吾所誇者、惟在吾主耶穌基督之十字聖架而已。因此、世之與我已互釘於十字聖架之上、而恝然相遺矣。

自誇固非所宜、亦不得已耳。且為爾一述主之顯現及默示可乎。吾知一人焉、十四年前、被挈直上第三天。當時魂附體乎？吾不之知也。魂不附體乎？吾不之知也。惟天主知之。吾知若人被引入樂園親聞神妙奧祕之言、非人所得而道也。當時魂之附體與否、吾不之知也；知之惟天主。吾願為若而人誇、至吾本身、實無足誇，有之、其在吾之柔弱無能歟！吾即欲誇、亦不致為狂妄、以所言皆實耳。然吾不欲多言、恐人之視我太高、超乎所見所聞於吾者。且主亦恐我以受此特達之啟示、而驕矜自慢也；故容沙殫加我以肉身上之痛楚、有如芒刺之着體、蓋不欲吾之得意而忘形耳。因是吾雖曾三次求主脫吾於此苦、然主謂吾曰：『吾之聖寵、已足助爾、蓋吾德之彰、即在柔弱中也。』故吾欣然以柔弱為樂、庶幾基督之神德、能常寓吾身。

吾雖稍誇吾儕之權力、亦不致有愧；惟此權力、係主所授以輔爾成立、非以致爾傾毀也。

故吾人立身處世、在在欲自表為天主之忠僕、事事堅忍；故患難也、匱乏也、困苦也、

吾儕不敢與一般自衒自媒者、較一日之短長、惟任若輩自相較量；實則皆淺識絀見耳。

吾之狂誕、爾使之也。吾早應受爾等之保舉矣。吾固不足道也、然較諸聲望最隆之宗徒、亦何所欠缺乎？

蓋稱許自己者、未足嘉也；惟為天主所許、斯可嘉已。
