然吾作此論、乃係體諒人情、非命令也。

尤望各自隨意樂助、勿稍存吝嗇或勉強之意。蓋惟以助人為樂者、乃為天主之所樂助耳。

兄弟乎、或曰我有信德；苟無善行、亦有何益？徒信詎有濟乎？設有兄弟或姊妹衣食匱乏、而爾謂之曰：『安心以去、吾信汝必得溫飽；』而不給以切身所需之物、則亦何所裨益。

尚其以愛德興善行互相鼓勵。

貞潔也、好學也、克己也、溫和也、聖神之靈感也、篤實之愛德也、

吾儕茲可告慰於爾等者、乃天主所賜於馬其頓諸聖會之恩寵也。彼等雖艱苦備嘗、而神樂恆湧於心中；貧窮至極、而熱情獨異乎尋常；慷慨輸將、惟力是視、甚有超過其力量者；此吾可為之作證也。

務須篤守真諦、涵養愛德、日漸月漬、暢茂條達、庶克仰配為吾人元首之基督。

若其顛墜而成舉世之福、其隕越而為萬邦之利、則其復興之為福更當何如！吾坦率告爾異邦人、吾為傳道於異邦人之宗徒也；然苟有可以激發吾之同胞骨肉、而拯救若干人於淪亡者、正吾之所以忠於厥職耳。

對於童貞者、吾未承主諭、惟吾既飽受主恩、自當忠實相告。

願凡愛吾主耶穌基督始終不渝者、咸蒙恩寵、源源不絕、心焉祝之。

懷主愛人、但看一片丹忱。疾惡如仇、好善若渴。

至於其他、予自言焉非主言也：如兄弟中有不信教理之妻、而其妻願意與之同居、則勿離之；

蓋吾深知爾等急公好義、且予曾以此誇獎爾等於馬其頓人曰：『亞該亞於一年前已發此心。』此間人士、為爾等之熱心所激發者、亦復不少。

是故極望爾等善遇之、以發揚爾等之愛德、而證吾儕所誇耀於爾等者之非子虛、亦所以副諸聖會之盛意耳。

依吾之見、捐助之事、實於爾等有益。蓋一年以前、爾等已着手舉辦此事、且發此私願。

今者爾之靈魂、已因服膺聖道而致潔矣；應能身體誠實無妄之愛德也。務望一秉赤誠、彼此相愛。
