萬國的王啊，誰不敬畏你？敬畏你是理所當然的。因為萬國的智者和君王中無人能與你相比。

耶和華把約旦河定為我們跟你們呂便和迦得人的邊界，你們與耶和華一點關係也沒有。』這樣，恐怕你們的子孫會使我們的子孫不再敬畏耶和華。

「我要讓他們遭受四種禍患——刀殺、狗撕、鳥啄、獸吞。這是耶和華說的。

倘若我使猛獸在那裡橫行、肆虐，以致那裡荒涼、人蹤絕跡，

約拿回答說：「我是希伯來人，我敬畏耶和華，祂是創造海洋陸地、掌管諸天的上帝。」

因此，林中的獅子必襲擊他們，荒野的豺狼必殘害他們，豹子也蹲伏在他們的城外，伺機撕裂出城的人，因為他們罪大惡極，屢屢叛道。

「主耶和華說，『我要把戰禍、饑荒、猛獸和瘟疫這四大刑罰降在耶路撒冷，毀滅人和牲畜。

於是，有一位從撒瑪利亞被擄走的祭司回去住在伯特利，教導他們怎樣敬拜耶和華。

這位先知在路上遇到一頭獅子，被咬死了，屍體倒在路上，驢和獅子都站在屍體旁邊。

以利沙轉身看著他們，奉耶和華的名咒詛他們。林中隨即走出來兩隻母熊，咬死了其中的四十二個少年。

那位先知就對他說：「既然你不聽從耶和華的吩咐，你一離開我，就會被獅子咬死。」那同伴走後，果然遇見獅子，被咬死了。
