Now when Ahithophel saw that his advice had not been followed, he saddled his donkey and set out and went to his home, to his city, and set his house in order, and hanged himself; so he died and was buried in his father’s grave.

For it is not an enemy who taunts me, Then I could endure it; Nor is it one who hates me who has exalted himself against me, Then I could hide myself from him.But it is you, a man my equal, My companion and my confidant;We who had sweet fellowship together, Walked in the house of God among the commotion.

Then Absalom and all the men of Israel said,“ The advice of Hushai the Archite is better than the advice of Ahithophel.” For the Lord had ordained to foil the good advice of Ahithophel, in order for the Lord to bring disaster on Absalom.

So he took him to the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and he built seven altars and offered a bull and a ram on each altar.

I am not speaking about all of you. I know the ones whom I have chosen; but this is happening so that the Scripture may be fulfilled,‘ He who eats My bread has lifted up his heel against Me.’

They proclaimed a fast, and seated Naboth at the head of the people.

Vindicate me, God, and plead my case against an ungodly nation; Save me from the deceitful and unjust person!For You are the God of my strength; why have You rejected me? Why do I go about mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

Ahithophel was counselor to the king; and Hushai the Archite was the king’s friend.

They profess to know God, but by their deeds they deny Him, being detestable and disobedient and worthless for any good deed.

Lord, how my enemies have increased! Many are rising up against me.Many are saying of my soul,“ There is no salvation for him in God.” Selah

But to the wicked God says,“ What right do you have to tell of My statutes And to take My covenant in your mouth?For you yourself hate discipline, And you throw My words behind you.When you see a thief, you become friends with him, And you associate with adulterers.You let your mouth loose in evil, And your tongue harnesses deceit.You sit and speak against your brother; You slander your own mother’s son.These things you have done and I kept silent; You thought that I was just like you; I will rebuke you and present the case before your eyes.

Then Balaam said to Balak,“ Build seven altars for me here, and prepare seven bulls and seven rams for me here.”

Balak did just as Balaam had said, and offered up a bull and a ram on each altar.

Now she had written in the letters, saying,“ Proclaim a fast and seat Naboth at the head of the people;

Then Absalom said to Ahithophel,“ Give your advice. What should we do?”Ahithophel said to Absalom,“ Have relations with your father’s concubines, whom he has left behind to take care of the house; then all Israel will hear that you have made yourself repulsive to your father. The hands of all who are with you will also be strengthened.”So they pitched a tent for Absalom on the roof, and Absalom had relations with his father’s concubines in the sight of all Israel.Now the advice of Ahithophel, which he gave in those days, was taken as though one inquired of the word of God; so was all the advice of Ahithophel regarded by both David and Absalom.

The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination, How much more when he brings it with evil intent!

Hear the word of the Lord, You rulers of Sodom; Listen to the instruction of our God, You people of Gomorrah!“ What are your many sacrifices to Me?” Says the Lord.“ I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams And the fat of fattened cattle; And I take no pleasure in the blood of bulls, lambs, or goats.When you come to appear before Me, Who requires of you this trampling of My courtyards?Do not go on bringing your worthless offerings, Incense is an abomination to Me. New moon and Sabbath, the proclamation of an assembly— I cannot endure wrongdoing and the festive assembly.I hate your new moon festivals and your appointed feasts, They have become a burden to Me; I am tired of bearing them.So when you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide My eyes from you; Yes, even though you offer many prayers, I will not be listening.
