在日光之下，我又看见一样智慧，觉得很有意义：有一座小城，人数不多；有一个大君王来进攻，把它包围，建造巨大的高垒攻城。城里有一个贫穷但有智慧的人，用他的智慧救了那城。然而，却没有人记念那穷人。于是我说：“智慧胜过武力”，但是那个穷人的智慧被藐视，他的话也没有人听从。听智慧人安安静静说出来的话，胜过听管理愚昧者的人的喊叫。智慧胜于战斗的武器，但一个罪人能破坏许多好事。

事后大卫听到了，就说：“关于尼珥的儿子押尼珥的血案，我和我的国家，在耶和华面前永远是无辜的。愿这流人血的罪归到约押的头上和他父亲的全家！又愿约押家不断有患血漏病的、长痲风的、拿拐杖的、倒毙在剑下的和缺乏粮食的。”因押尼珥在基遍的战场上，杀死了他们的兄弟亚撒黑，约押和他的兄弟亚比筛就杀了押尼珥。大卫对约押和与他在一起的众人说：“你们要撕裂衣服，腰束麻布，在押尼珥面前哀哭！”大卫王也走在棺木后面。他们把押尼珥埋葬在希伯仑。王在押尼珥的墓旁放声大哭，众人也都哭了。王又为押尼珥作了哀歌，说：“难道押尼珥死去，要像愚妄的人死去一样吗？你的手没有被绳索绑住，你的脚也没有被铜链锁住，你倒毙，好像人在暴徒面前倒毙一样！”于是，众民又为押尼珥哀哭。还在白天的时候，众人都来劝大卫吃点饭；大卫起誓说：“我若在日落以前吃饭或吃什么东西，愿神降罚我，重重地降罚我。”众人看见了，就都喜悦。王所作的一切，他们都很喜悦。那一天众人和全以色列都知道，杀死尼珥的儿子押尼珥，并不是出于王的意思。王对他的臣仆说：“你们不知道今天在以色列中，有一位将领和伟人倒毙了吗？今天我虽然受膏为王，但我还是幼弱的。洗鲁雅的两个儿子太强了，非我所能应付。愿耶和华照着恶人所行的恶，报应恶人。”

对恶行已判定的刑罚迟迟没有执行，世人的心就充满行恶的意图。

大卫派人到约押那里，说：“你打发赫人乌利亚到我这里来。”约押就打发乌利亚去见大卫。乌利亚来到大卫那里，大卫就问约押和士兵可好，又问战场上的情形怎样。大卫对乌利亚说：“你回家去，洗洗脚吧！”乌利亚就离开了王宫。随后王的一份礼物也跟着送去。乌利亚却和他主人的臣仆一同睡在王宫门外，没有回到自己家里去。有人告诉大卫说：“乌利亚没有下到自己家里去。”大卫就问乌利亚：“你不是从远路回来吗？为什么不下到自己家里去呢？”乌利亚回答大卫说：“约柜、以色列人和犹大人都住在棚里，我主人约押和我主人的臣仆都在野地安营，我怎能回家吃喝，与妻子同睡呢？我指着王和王的生命发誓：我绝不敢作这样的事。”大卫对乌利亚说：“你今天还留在这里，明天我才打发你去。”那一天，乌利亚就留在耶路撒冷。次日，大卫召了乌利亚来，叫乌利亚与他一起吃喝，使他喝醉。到了晚上，乌利亚出去，与他主人的臣仆一同睡在自己的床铺上，还是没有下到自己家里去。到了早晨，大卫写了一封给约押的信，交乌利亚亲手带去。他在信里写着说：“要把乌利亚派到战斗最猛烈的前线去，然后你们就退到他后边，让他被击杀。”那时，约押正在围城，他知道哪里有强悍的守军，就派乌利亚到那里去。城里的人出来，与约押交战。大卫的仆人中有一些倒毙了，赫人乌利亚也死了。于是，约押派人去把战事的一切情形都报告大卫。他又吩咐那使者说：“你把战事的一切情形对王说完了以后，王若是大怒，责问你：‘你们为什么那样靠近那城争战呢？你们不知道敌人会从城墙上射箭下来吗？从前击杀了耶路‧比设的儿子亚比米勒的是谁呢？不是一个妇人从城墙上把一块磨石丢在他身上，他就死在提备斯吗？你们为什么靠近城墙呢？’你就回答：‘王的仆人赫人乌利亚也死了。’”

有一个聪明的妇人在城墙上呼叫：“请听！请听！请你们对约押说：‘请你走近这里，我有话对你说。’”

约押吹响号角，众人就回来，不再追赶以色列人；因为约押拦阻众人继续追赶。

于是约押吹响号角，众人就站住，不再追赶以色列人，也不再打仗了。
