“ You have delivered me from the attacks of the peoples; you have preserved me as the head of nations. People I did not know now serve me,

“ You saved me when people attacked me. You have kept me as the ruler over nations. People I didn’t know serve me now.

“ You delivered me from strife with my people; you kept me as the head of the nations; people whom I had not known served me.

You have freed me from the feuds among my people; you have preserved me as head of nations; a people I had not known serve me.

You have also saved me from the contentions of my people; You have kept me as head of the nations; A people I have not known serve me.

“ You have also delivered me from the strivings of my people; You have kept me as the head of the nations. A people I have not known shall serve me.

Thou also hast delivered me from the strivings of my people; Thou hast kept me to be the head of the nations: A people whom I have not known shall serve me.

You have freed me from the feuds among my people; You have appointed me the head of nations; a people I had not known serve me.

Thou also hast delivered me from the strivings of my people, thou hast kept me[ to be] head of the heathen: a people[ which] I knew not shall serve me.

You rescue me from a hostile army; you preserve me as a leader of nations; people over whom I had no authority are now my subjects.

You also have delivered me from the strivings of my people. You have kept me to be the head of the nations. A people whom I have not known will serve me.

After this, David defeated and subdued the Philistines by conquering Gath, their largest town.David also conquered the land of Moab. He made the people lie down on the ground in a row, and he measured them off in groups with a length of rope. He measured off two groups to be executed for every one group to be spared. The Moabites who were spared became David’s subjects and paid him tribute money.David also destroyed the forces of Hadadezer son of Rehob, king of Zobah, when Hadadezer marched out to strengthen his control along the Euphrates River.David captured 1,000 chariots, 7,000 charioteers, and 20,000 foot soldiers. He crippled all the chariot horses except enough for 100 chariots.When Arameans from Damascus arrived to help King Hadadezer, David killed 22,000 of them.Then he placed several army garrisons in Damascus, the Aramean capital, and the Arameans became David’s subjects and paid him tribute money. So the Lord made David victorious wherever he went.David brought the gold shields of Hadadezer’s officers to Jerusalem,along with a large amount of bronze from Hadadezer’s towns of Tebah and Berothai.When King Toi of Hamath heard that David had destroyed the entire army of Hadadezer,he sent his son Joram to congratulate King David for his successful campaign. Hadadezer and Toi had been enemies and were often at war. Joram presented David with many gifts of silver, gold, and bronze.King David dedicated all these gifts to the Lord, as he did with the silver and gold from the other nations he had defeated—from Edom, Moab, Ammon, Philistia, and Amalek— and from Hadadezer son of Rehob, king of Zobah.So David became even more famous when he returned from destroying 18,000 Edomites in the Valley of Salt.He placed army garrisons throughout Edom, and all the Edomites became David’s subjects. In fact, the Lord made David victorious wherever he went.

You also will command nations you do not know, and peoples unknown to you will come running to obey, because I, the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, have made you glorious.”

That was the beginning of a long war between those who were loyal to Saul and those loyal to David. As time passed David became stronger and stronger, while Saul’s dynasty became weaker and weaker.

And throughout all the tribes of Israel there was much discussion and argument going on. The people were saying,“ The king rescued us from our enemies and saved us from the Philistines, but Absalom chased him out of the country.

Then Amasa convinced all the men of Judah, and they responded unanimously. They sent word to the king,“ Return to us, and bring back all who are with you.”

If you listen to these commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you today, and if you carefully obey them, the Lord will make you the head and not the tail, and you will always be on top and never at the bottom.

So the battle began in the forest of Ephraim,and the Israelite troops were beaten back by David’s men. There was a great slaughter that day, and 20,000 men laid down their lives.The battle raged all across the countryside, and more men died because of the forest than were killed by the sword.

The God of our ancestors raised Jesus from the dead after you killed him by hanging him on a cross.Then God put him in the place of honor at his right hand as Prince and Savior. He did this so the people of Israel would repent of their sins and be forgiven.

you spoke long ago by the Holy Spirit through our ancestor David, your servant, saying,‘ Why were the nations so angry? Why did they waste their time with futile plans?The kings of the earth prepared for battle; the rulers gathered together against the Lord and against his Messiah.’“ In fact, this has happened here in this very city! For Herod Antipas, Pontius Pilate the governor, the Gentiles, and the people of Israel were all united against Jesus, your holy servant, whom you anointed.But everything they did was determined beforehand according to your will.

Only ask, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance, the whole earth as your possession.

Then all the tribes of Israel went to David at Hebron and told him,“ We are your own flesh and blood.

Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices shouting in heaven:“ The world has now become the Kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign forever and ever.”

At that time I will plant a crop of Israelites and raise them for myself. I will show love to those I called‘ Not loved.’ And to those I called‘ Not my people,’ I will say,‘ Now you are my people.’ And they will reply,‘ You are our God!’”

For the nations that refuse to serve you will be destroyed.

He was given authority, honor, and sovereignty over all the nations of the world, so that people of every race and nation and language would obey him. His rule is eternal— it will never end. His kingdom will never be destroyed.

And in another place Isaiah said,“ The heir to David’s throne will come, and he will rule over the Gentiles. They will place their hope on him.”

You gave me victory over my accusers. You appointed me ruler over nations; people I don’t even know now serve me.

Then the woman went to all the people with her wise advice, and they cut off Sheba’s head and threw it out to Joab. So he blew the ram’s horn and called his troops back from the attack. They all returned to their homes, and Joab returned to the king at Jerusalem.

Why are the nations so angry? Why do they waste their time with futile plans?The kings of the earth prepare for battle; the rulers plot together against the Lord and against his anointed one.“ Let us break their chains,” they cry,“ and free ourselves from slavery to God.”But the one who rules in heaven laughs. The Lord scoffs at them.Then in anger he rebukes them, terrifying them with his fierce fury.For the Lord declares,“ I have placed my chosen king on the throne in Jerusalem, on my holy mountain.”

There happened to be a troublemaker there named Sheba son of Bicri, a man from the tribe of Benjamin. Sheba blew a ram’s horn and began to chant:“ Down with the dynasty of David! We have no interest in the son of Jesse. Come on, you men of Israel, back to your homes!”So all the men of Israel deserted David and followed Sheba son of Bicri. But the men of Judah stayed with their king and escorted him from the Jordan River to Jerusalem.

May he reign from sea to sea, and from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earth.Desert nomads will bow before him; his enemies will fall before him in the dust.

But Moab, my washbasin, will become my servant, and I will wipe my feet on Edom and shout in triumph over Philistia.”Who will bring me into the fortified city? Who will bring me victory over Edom?

The Lord says,“ I was ready to respond, but no one asked for help. I was ready to be found, but no one was looking for me. I said,‘ Here I am, here I am!’ to a nation that did not call on my name.

He will punish the nations and fill their lands with corpses; he will shatter heads over the whole earth.

Concerning the Gentiles, God says in the prophecy of Hosea,“ Those who were not my people, I will now call my people. And I will love those whom I did not love before.”
