They brought the head of Ish- Bosheth to David at Hebron and said to the king,“ Here is the head of Ish- Bosheth son of Saul, your enemy, who tried to kill you. This day the Lord has avenged my lord the king against Saul and his offspring.”

And they brought the head of Ishbosheth to David at Hebron, and said to the king,“ Here is the head of Ishbosheth, the son of Saul your enemy, who sought your life; and the Lord has avenged my Lord the king this day of Saul and his descendants.”

And they brought the head of Ish- bosheth unto David to Hebron, and said to the king, Behold, the head of Ish- bosheth, the son of Saul, thine enemy, who sought thy life; and Jehovah hath avenged my lord the king this day of Saul, and of his seed.

Now David saw that Saul had come out to seek his life while David was in the wilderness of Ziph, at Horesh.

Then Saul sent messengers to see David, saying,“ Bring him up to me on his bed, so that I may put him to death.”

Then David’s men said to him,“ Behold, this is the day of which the Lord said to you,‘ Behold; I am about to hand your enemy over to you, and you shall do to him as it seems good to you.’ ” Then David got up and cut off the edge of Saul’s robe secretly.

Then Saul hurled the spear, for he thought,“ I will pin David to the wall.” But David escaped from his presence, twice.

Then Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said,“ Please let me run and bring the king news that the Lord has freed him from the hand of his enemies!”

So Jonathan informed David, saying,“ My father Saul is seeking to put you to death. Now then, please be on your guard in the morning, and stay in a hiding place and conceal yourself.And as for me, I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where you are hiding, and I will speak with my father about you; and whatever I find out, I will tell you.”Then Jonathan spoke well of David to his father Saul and said to him,“ May the king not sin against his servant David, since he has not sinned against you, and since his deeds have been very beneficial to you.For he took his life in his hand and struck the Philistine, and the Lord brought about a great victory for all Israel; you saw it and rejoiced. Why then would you sin against innocent blood by putting David to death for no reason?”Saul listened to the voice of Jonathan, and Saul vowed,“ As the Lord lives, David shall not be put to death.”Then Jonathan called David, and Jonathan told him all these words. And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence as before.When there was war again, David went out and fought the Philistines and defeated them with great slaughter, so that they fled from him.Now there was an evil spirit from the Lord on Saul as he was sitting in his house with his spear in his hand, and David was playing the harp with his hand.And Saul tried to pin David to the wall with the spear, but he escaped from Saul’s presence, so that he stuck the spear into the wall. And David fled and escaped that night.Then Saul sent messengers to David’s house to watch him, in order to put him to death in the morning. But Michal, David’s wife, informed him, saying,“ If you do not save your life tonight, tomorrow you will be put to death!”

Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you saints and apostles and prophets, because God has pronounced judgment for you against her.”

Then behold, the Cushite arrived, and the Cushite said,“ Let my lord the king receive good news, for the Lord has freed you this day from the hand of all those who rose up against you.”

“ Get up, take the Child and His mother, and go to the land of Israel; for those who sought the Child’s life are dead.”

and they cried out with a loud voice, saying,“ How long, O Lord, holy and true, will You refrain from judging and avenging our blood on those who live on the earth?”

But those who seek my life to destroy it, Will go into the depths of the earth.They will be turned over to the power of the sword; They will be a prey for foxes.

The God who executes vengeance for me, And brings down peoples under me,

now, will God not bring about justice for His elect who cry out to Him day and night, and will He delay long for them?I tell you that He will bring about justice for them quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?”

My tongue also will tell of Your righteousness all day long; For they are put to shame, for they are humiliated who seek my harm.

Then David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and he came and said to Jonathan,“ What have I done? What is my guilt? And what is my sin before your father, that he is seeking my life?”
