David also defeated the Moabites. He made them lie down on the ground and measured them off with a length of cord. Every two lengths of them were put to death, and the third length was allowed to live. So the Moabites became subject to David and brought him tribute.

David also won the battle over the people of Moab. He made them lie down on the ground. Then he measured them off with a piece of rope. He put two- thirds of them to death. He let the other third remain alive. So the Moabites were brought under David’s rule. They gave him the gifts he required them to bring him.

And he defeated Moab and he measured them with a line, making them lie down on the ground. Two lines he measured to be put to death, and one full line to be spared. And the Moabites became servants to David and brought tribute.

David also conquered the land of Moab. He made the people lie down on the ground in a row, and he measured them off in groups with a length of rope. He measured off two groups to be executed for every one group to be spared. The Moabites who were spared became David’s subjects and paid him tribute money.

從以東、從摩押、從亞捫人、非利士人、亞瑪力人，從瑣巴王利合的兒子哈大底謝、所掠得來的、都分別為聖，獻與永恆主。大衛在鹽谷擊敗了以東一萬八千人回來以後、就得了大名聲。他又在以東設立駐防營；他在全以東設立了駐防營，全以東就都臣服於大衛。大衛無論往哪裏去，永恆主總使他得勝。

他又擊敗了摩押，摩押人就臣服於大衛，帶着貢物而來。

你們不要聽希西家的話；因為亞述王這麼說：「你們要向我祝福請安，出來投降我，各人就可以喫自己葡萄樹、自己無花果樹的果子，喝自己井裏的水；

摩押王米沙是個大戶牧人；他素常將十萬隻羊羔、和十萬隻公綿羊的毛進貢給以色列王。亞哈死了以後，摩押王背叛以色列王。那時約蘭王從撒瑪利亞出來，點閱了以色列眾人。他就進行，差遣人去見猶大王約沙法，說：『摩押王背叛了我；你要跟我去對摩押作戰麼？』他說：『我要上去；你我不分彼此：我的人民就等於你的人民，我的馬就等於你的馬。』他說：『我們從哪條路上去呢？』他說：『從以東曠野的路上去。』於是以色列王、猶大王和以東王就去；他們繞了一條路、共有七天；也沒有水給軍兵和跟隨的牲口喝。以色列王就說：『哀啊，永恆主召集了這三個王、要把他們交在摩押人手中了。』約沙法說：『這裏不是有永恆主的神言人、我們可以托他去尋問永恆主的麼？』以色列王的臣僕中有一個人回答說：『這裏有沙法的兒子以利沙、就是曾經倒水在以利亞手上、去服事以利亞的。約沙法說：『他有永恆主的話語。』於是以色列王和約沙法跟以東王都下去見他。以利沙對以色列王說：『你和我有甚麼關係？你去找你父親的神言人、和你母親的神言人吧。』以色列王對他說：『不；是永恆主召集了這三個王、要把他們交在摩押人手中的。』以利沙說：『我指着我侍立在他面前的永活萬軍永恆主來起誓，我若不是看猶大王約沙法的情面，我就不理你、不看你。現在你們給我帶個彈琴的人來。』（因為每逢彈琴的時候，永恆主的手總按在以利沙身上。）以利沙便說：『永恆主這麼說：「你們在這谿谷中滿處挖溝吧！」因為永恆主這麼說：「你們雖不見風、不見雨，這谿谷還要滿了水，使你們有的喝，你們和你們的羣畜和牲口都有的喝。』然而、在永恆主看來這倒算為輕易事；他還要將摩押人交在你們手中呢。你們要擊破一切有堡壘的城、一切上好的城；你們要砍伐各種好樹，要塞住一切水泉，要用石頭蹧蹋一切美好的地段。』第二天早晨、約當獻祭的時候、忽有水從以東路向而來，遍地就滿了水。摩押眾人聽見了這三個王上來、要和他們交戰，凡能束上武裝的，從最年輕到最年長的、都應召而出，站在邊界上。第二天早晨，日光照在水上，摩押人清早起來，看見對面水紅如血；就說：『這是血啊！三個王必是互相擊殺、均敗俱亡了。摩押人哪，我們現在去奪取掠物吧！』摩押人到了以色列營，以色列人起來擊敗摩押人，摩押人就在以色列人面前逃跑；以色列人進到摩押境內，繼續擊敗了摩押人。翻毁了城市；對一切美好地段他們各拋石頭去填滿它，又塞住一切水泉，砍伐各種好樹，甚至吉珥哈列設也只剩下城牆的石頭；甩石的人都圍繞那城而攻擊它。摩押王見戰勢劇烈、難以對敵，就率領能拔刀的七百人，要衝破戰陣到以東王那裏，卻不能；就把將要接替自己作王的長子在城牆上獻為燔祭。以色列人大為驚愕失措；三王便回本地去了。

亞捫人給烏西雅進貢；他的名聲傳到埃及，因為他非常強盛。

願他施和沿海島嶼的列王都進貢；願示巴和西巴的列王都呈獻貢品。願列王都向他下拜；願列國都服事他。

掃羅取得了管理以色列的王權，常常對四圍一切的仇敵作戰，去攻打摩押、亞捫人、以東，瑣巴諸王、以及非利士人；他無論走向哪裏，全都得勝。

亞述王撒縵以色上來攻擊何細亞，何細亞就臣服他，給他進貢。

那時他們擊殺了摩押人約有一萬，都是肥壯的、都是有力氣的人，沒有一個逃脫。就在那一天、摩押就在以色列人手下被制伏了。於是地方太平八十年。

亞哈死了以後，摩押背叛以色列。

他又將城裏的人拉出來，使他們用鋸子、或鐵的銳器、用鐵斧、作工，用磚模服勞：大衛待亞捫人的眾城市、都是這樣。後來大衛和所有的兵眾就回耶路撒冷去了。
