“ I wish before God,” replied Paul,“ that whether easily or with difficulty, not only you but all who listen to me today might become as I am— except for these chains.”

for which I suffer to the point of being bound like a criminal. But the word of God is not bound.

the commander ordered him to be brought into the barracks, directing that he be interrogated with the scourge to discover the reason they were shouting against him like this.As they stretched him out for the lash, Paul said to the centurion standing by,“ Is it legal for you to scourge a man who is a Roman citizen and is uncondemned?”
