At daybreak they entered the temple courts, as they had been told, and began to teach the people. When the high priest and his associates arrived, they called together the Sanhedrin— the full assembly of the elders of Israel— and sent to the jail for the apostles.

到了天亮，士兵中起了不小的騷動，不知道彼得怎麼樣了。希律急地尋找他，找不着，就審問守衛兵們，發命令拉去殺了。希律便離開猶太、下該撒利亞，暫時住着。

天一亮，民間的長老會，連祭司長帶經學士都聚集，把耶穌帶走、到他們的議院裏，說：

使他隨意約束大臣，將智慧教導長老。

既把使徒帶到了，就叫他們站在議院中。大祭司詰問他們說：

到第二天、民間的議員、長老和經學士、就在耶路撒冷聚集。大祭司亞拿、和該亞法、約拿單、亞力山大、以及所有屬於大祭司家族的人、都在座。他們叫使徒站在當中，就查問說：『你們用甚麼能力、奉甚麼名、作這件事呢？』

彼拉多回答說：『難道我是猶太人麼？你本國的人和祭司長們把你送交給我；你作了甚麼事啊？』

白天耶穌在殿裏教訓人，夜裏就出去到那叫橄欖園的山上住宿。眾民清早起來到他那裏，要在殿裏聽他。

使徒就從議院面前走開，心裏歡喜可以算作配為這名受侮辱的。

大祭司和所有同着他的人、就是撒都該派的人、都起來，滿心妒忌，

但是我告訴你們：凡向弟兄發怒的，必須擔受判罰；凡罵弟兄為「飯桶」的，必須擔受議院的判罰；凡罵弟兄為「傻瓜」的，必須擔受地獄的火。

因為你必將你所看見所聽見的為他對萬人作見證。

但議院中有一個人站起來，是個法利賽人、名叫迦瑪列，是眾民所敬重的教法師。他吩咐把使徒暫時帶到外邊，

眾人聽見他用希伯來土話對他們陳述，就越發保持着安靜。保羅就說：『我是猶太人，生於基利家的大數，卻是在這城裏撫養大的，在迦瑪列腳前，按着我們祖宗嚴緊之律法受訓練，本是為上帝而熱心的人，像你們眾人今天一樣。
