因此，我要用荊棘堵塞她的通道，我要築牆圍住她，使她找不著出路。她要追趕她那些愛人，卻追不上；要尋找他們，卻找不著。她就說：‘我要回去，回到前夫那裡，因為從前比現在好得多了。’

他醒悟過來，說：‘我父親有那麼多雇工，又有豐富的食物，我卻要在這裡餓死嗎？我要起來，到我父親那裡去，對他說：爸爸，我得罪了天，也得罪了你，

這些事以後，那婦人，就是那個家庭的女主人的兒子病了。他的病情十分嚴重，以致呼吸都停止了。於是婦人對以利亞說：“神人哪，我跟你有甚麼關係呢？你竟到我這裡來，使耶和華想起我的罪孽，殺死我的兒子。”

因此，他把他猛烈的怒氣和慘酷的戰爭，傾倒在他身上；這在他四周如火燒起來，他還不知道；把他燒著了，他也不放在心上。

耶和華的怒氣必不轉消，直到他作成和實現他心中的計劃。在末後的日子，你們就會完全明白這事。

他使你受苦，任你飢餓，把你和你的列祖不認識的嗎哪賜給你吃，使你知道人活著，不是單靠食物，更要靠耶和華口裡所出的一切話。

堅固門徒的心，勸他們恆守所信的道，又說：“我們進入神的國，必須經歷許多苦難。”

你們一切都聽見了，總而言之，應當敬畏神，謹守他的誡命，因為這是每一個人的本分。

現在你們也有憂愁；但我要再見你們，你們的心就會喜樂，你們的喜樂是沒有人能夠奪去的。到了那天，你們甚麼也不會問我了。我實實在在告訴你們，你們奉我的名無論向父求甚麼，他必定賜給你們。

你已經把我的悲哀變為舞蹈，把我的麻衣脫去，又給我穿上歡樂；好讓我的靈（“靈”或譯：“榮耀”或“肝”；與16:9，57:8，108:1同）歌頌你，永不停止。耶和華我的神啊！我要永遠稱讚你。

“我厭惡我的性命，我要盡情吐苦水，傾訴心中的痛苦。我要對神說：不要定我有罪，請告訴我你為甚麼與我相爭。

到那日，主萬軍之耶和華叫人哭泣哀號，剃光頭髮，穿上麻布。看哪！人還是歡喜快樂，宰牛殺羊，吃肉喝酒，說：“我們吃喝吧！因為明天我們就要死了。”萬軍之耶和華親自啟示我說：“直到你們死的時候，這罪孽也不得赦免。”這是主萬軍之耶和華說的。

在被擄的地方，他們若是回心轉意，在他們被擄去之地回轉，向你祈求，說：‘我們犯了罪了；我們犯了過了，我們作了惡事。’

聽啊！耶和華向這城呼叫，敬畏你的名就是智慧；支派和城裡的會眾啊！你們要聽。

現在萬軍之耶和華這樣說：“你們要反省自己的行為。你們撒的種多，收割的卻少；你們吃，卻吃不飽；你們喝，卻喝不足；你們穿衣服，卻穿不暖；得工錢的，卻把工錢放在破袋裡。”萬軍之耶和華這樣說：“你們要反省自己的行為。

你們中間有人受苦嗎？他就應該禱告。有人心情愉快嗎？他就應該歌頌。

耶和華啊！你的手高舉，他們還是看不見。願他們因看見你對子民的熱心而慚愧；願那為你的敵人預備的火吞滅他們。

我受苦是對我有益的，為要使我學習你的律例。

耶和華啊！你所管教，用律法教導的人，是有福的。在患難的日子，你使他得享平安，直到為惡人所預備的坑挖好了。

‘我喜愛憐憫，不喜愛祭祀’，你們去想一想這話的意思吧。我來不是要召義人，而是要召罪人。”
