All share a common destiny— the righteous and the wicked, the good and the bad, the clean and the unclean, those who offer sacrifices and those who do not. As it is with the good, so with the sinful; as it is with those who take oaths, so with those who are afraid to take them.

Everyone will die someday. Death comes to godly and sinful people alike. It comes to good and bad people alike. It comes to“ clean” and“ unclean” people alike. Those who offer sacrifices and those who don’t offer them also die. A good person dies, and so does a sinner. Those who make promises die. So do those who are afraid to make them.

It is the same for all, since the same event happens to the righteous and the wicked, to the good and the evil, to the clean and the unclean, to him who sacrifices and him who does not sacrifice. As the good one is, so is the sinner, and he who swears is as he who shuns an oath.

The same destiny ultimately awaits everyone, whether righteous or wicked, good or bad, ceremonially clean or unclean, religious or irreligious. Good people receive the same treatment as sinners, and people who make promises to God are treated like people who don’t.

是時爾必得見善人與惡人有別、有別原文作有何別下同事天主者與不事天主者有別、

智者凡事目明、愚者行於幽暗、然亦知智者愚者所遇、無以異也、我自思曰、我自思曰原文作我心中曰下同我之所遇、既無異於愚者所遇、何必智愈他人哉、我自思曰、此亦屬於虛、智者與愚者永不見憶、同也、蓋今日所有之事、將來皆忘、可歎智者之死、無異愚者、

無論善惡、天主俱滅、故我言善惡無分、所遇皆同、

我見驕妄人及兇惡人得享平康、我則憤懣不平、

惡人雖百次行惡、仍享遐齡、然我知敬畏天主者、在天主前存敬畏心者、終得享福、惡人不敬畏天主、終不得享福、雖長壽、不為長壽、如虛影而已、世間更有一患事、即有善人遭惡人所當遭者、有惡人遇善人所當遇者、我則曰、此亦屬於虛、

天主所悅者、賜以智慧、知識、歡樂、獲罪於天主者、天主則畀以收斂積蓄之任、終歸於天主所悅者用、此亦屬於虛、亦如捕風、

往憂喪之家、愈於往宴樂之家、在憂喪之家、見人之終、生者可以自悟、生者可以自悟原文作生者可置之於心

彼立約立約原文作施手以成約之後、輕誓背約、既行此諸事、必不得免難、主天主曰、我指己永生而誓、彼所輕之誓、即向我而發、所背之約、即與我而立、我必加報其身、身原文作首

我令爾指主宰天地之耶和華天主而誓、我居迦南人中、爾毋為我子娶其女為妻、

彼有福而不自享、雖壽至二千年、亦屬徒然、終與眾人同往一所、○

爾又曰、今我可稱驕傲者為福、作惡者昌盛、昌盛或作得建彼雖試天主、亦得免於患難、

倘女不欲從爾、則此誓與爾無與、惟不可攜我子返故土、僕遂置手於亞伯拉罕髀下、為此事而誓之、

民既入林、見蜜流於地、因畏誓言、無人敢以手取之入口、
