The king’s edict granted the Jews in every city the right to assemble and protect themselves; to destroy, kill and annihilate the armed men of any nationality or province who might attack them and their women and children, and to plunder the property of their enemies.

The Jews in every city could now gather together and fight for their lives. The king’s order gave them that right. But suppose soldiers from any nation or territory attacked them, their women or children. Then the Jews could destroy, kill and wipe out those soldiers. They could also take the goods that belonged to their enemies.

通國中、各州邑之猶大人、咸集禦敵、庶民畏之、莫之敢攖。州牧、方伯、百寮、畏木底改、助猶大人。蓋木底改爵位日隆、尊於朝廷、名震四方。猶大人擊諸敵而戮之、任意以為。在書山城、猶大族殺五百人。亦殺巴山大他、答本、押巴他、破喇他、亞大利、亞哩大他、巴抹大、亞哩賽、亞哩太、瓦耶撒大、皆哈曼之子、不取其貨財。當日在書山城、核被殺者之數、呈於王前。王以告后曰、猶大人在書山城中、已殺五百人、並殺哈曼十子、若統各州而計之、不知凡幾、爾尚有何求、我必予爾。后曰、如王悅、則王頒詔、使居書山之猶大人明日復行是事、與今日無異、懸哈曼十子之尸於木、王頒詔於書山、使行如言、取哈曼十子之尸懸之。亞達月十四日、書山之猶大人咸集、又殺三百人、不取其貨財。亞達月十三日、居各州之猶大人咸集、以相扞禦、殺敵七萬五千人、不取貨財、然後事平。

巴比倫之邑民兮、昔爾害予、擲嬰孩於石、今有人待爾若此者、必得純嘏兮。

天地滄海、凡百庶物、咸其所造、言出惟行、永世不忘兮、耶和華兮、冤抑者雪之、饑餓者食之、幽囚者釋之兮、矇瞶者明之、卷曲者伸之、為善者愛之兮、賓旅護之、孤寡拯之、作惡者傾之兮、

我民偽善、我必震怒、使亞述人擊之、攘奪其貨、蹂躪其身、若逵衢之糞壤。

義人悅懌、在上帝前、忻喜不勝兮。
