管會堂的因為耶穌在安息日治病，就氣忿忿地對眾人說：「有六日應當做工；那六日之內可以來求醫，在安息日卻不可。」主說：「假冒為善的人哪，難道你們各人在安息日不解開槽上的牛、驢，牽去飲嗎？

以色列人在曠野的時候，遇見一個人在安息日撿柴。遇見他撿柴的人，就把他帶到摩西、亞倫並全會眾那裏，將他收在監內；因為當怎樣辦他，還沒有指明。耶和華吩咐摩西說：「總要把那人治死；全會眾要在營外用石頭把他打死。」於是全會眾將他帶到營外，用石頭打死他，是照耶和華所吩咐摩西的。

六日要勞碌做你一切的工，但第七日是向耶和華－你神當守的安息日。這一日你和你的兒女、僕婢、牲畜，並你城裏寄居的客旅，無論何工都不可做；

「你要吩咐以色列人說：『你們務要守我的安息日；因為這是你我之間世世代代的證據，使你們知道我－耶和華是叫你們成為聖的。所以你們要守安息日，以為聖日。凡干犯這日的，必要把他治死；凡在這日做工的，必從民中剪除。六日要做工，但第七日是安息聖日，是向耶和華守為聖的。凡在安息日做工的，必要把他治死。』故此，以色列人要世世代代守安息日為永遠的約。

「六日你要做工，第七日要安息，使牛、驢可以歇息，並使你婢女的兒子和寄居的都可以舒暢。

人干犯摩西的律法，憑兩三個見證人，尚且不得憐恤而死，何況人踐踏神的兒子，將那使他成聖之約的血當作平常，又褻慢施恩的聖靈，你們想，他要受的刑罰該怎樣加重呢！

所以猶太人逼迫耶穌，因為他在安息日做了這事。

那藉着天使所傳的話既是確定的；凡干犯悖逆的都受了該受的報應。我們若忽略這麼大的救恩，怎能逃罪呢？這救恩起先是主親自講的，後來是聽見的人給我們證實了。

「『當照耶和華－你神所吩咐的守安息日為聖日。六日要勞碌做你一切的工，但第七日是向耶和華－你神當守的安息日。這一日，你和你的兒女、僕婢、牛、驢、牲畜，並在你城裏寄居的客旅，無論何工都不可做，使你的僕婢可以和你一樣安息。你也要記念你在埃及地作過奴僕；耶和華－你神用大能的手和伸出來的膀臂將你從那裏領出來。因此，耶和華－你的神吩咐你守安息日。
