He returns what was taken in pledge, pays back what he has stolen, and follows the statutes that give life, committing no iniquity. He will certainly live– he will not die.

if they give back what they took in pledge for a loan, return what they have stolen, follow the decrees that give life, and do no evil— that person will surely live; they will not die.

They return things they take to make sure loans are repaid. They give back what they have stolen. They obey my rules that give life. They do not do what is evil. Then you can be sure they will live. They will not die.

if the wicked restores the pledge, gives back what he has taken by robbery, and walks in the statutes of life, not doing injustice, he shall surely live; he shall not die.

For instance, they might give back a debtor’s security, return what they have stolen, and obey my life giving laws, no longer doing what is evil. If they do this, then they will surely live and not die.

( 21: 37)“ If a man steals an ox or a sheep and kills it or sells it, he must pay back five head of cattle for the ox, and four sheep for the one sheep.“ If a thief is caught breaking in and is struck so that he dies, there will be no blood guilt for him.If the sun has risen on him, then there is blood guilt for him. A thief must surely make full restitution; if he has nothing, then he will be sold for his theft.If the stolen item should in fact be found alive in his possession, whether it be an ox or a donkey or a sheep, he must pay back double.

“ When a person sins and commits a trespass against the LORD by deceiving his fellow citizen in regard to something held in trust, or a pledge, or something stolen, or by extorting something from his fellow citizen,or has found something lost and denies it and swears falsely concerning any one of the things that someone might do to sin–when it happens that he sins and he is found guilty, then he must return whatever he had stolen, or whatever he had extorted, or the thing that he had held in trust, or the lost thing that he had found,or anything about which he swears falsely. He must restore it in full and add one fifth to it; he must give it to its owner when he is found guilty.

does not oppress anyone, but gives the debtor back whatever was given in pledge, does not commit robbery, but gives his bread to the hungry and clothes the naked,

So you must keep my statutes and my regulations; anyone who does so will live by keeping them. I am the LORD.

They were both righteous in the sight of God, following all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blamelessly.

But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness; they did not follow my statutes and they rejected my regulations( the one who obeys them will live by them), and they utterly desecrated my Sabbaths. So I decided to pour out my rage on them in the wilderness and destroy them.

You must not pervert justice due a resident foreigner or an orphan, or take a widow’s garment as security for a loan.

When you make any kind of loan to your neighbor, you may not go into his house to claim what he is offering as security.You must stand outside and the person to whom you are making the loan will bring out to you what he is offering as security.If the person is poor you may not use what he gives you as security for a covering.You must by all means return to him at sunset the item he gave you as security so that he may sleep in his outer garment and bless you for it; it will be considered a just deed by the LORD your God.

They drive away the orphan’s donkey; they take the widow’s ox as a pledge.

If you do take the garment of your neighbor in pledge, you must return it to him by the time the sun goes down,for it is his only covering– it is his garment for his body. What else can he sleep in? And when he cries out to me, I will hear, for I am gracious.

The fatherless child is snatched from the breast, the infant of the poor is taken as a pledge.

“ For you took pledges from your brothers for no reason, and you stripped the clothing from the naked.

“‘ But the children rebelled against me, did not follow my statutes, did not observe my regulations by carrying them out( the one who obeys them will live by them), and desecrated my Sabbaths. I decided to pour out my rage on them and fully vent my anger against them in the wilderness.

I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have revived me.

“ Tell the Israelites,‘ When a man or a woman commits any sin that people commit, thereby breaking faith with the LORD, and that person is found guilty,then he must confess his sin that he has committed and must make full reparation, add one fifth to it, and give it to whomever he wronged.But if the individual has no close relative to whom reparation can be made for the wrong, the reparation for the wrong must be paid to the LORD for the priest, in addition to the ram of atonement by which atonement is made for him.

When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed and does what is just and right, he will preserve his life.Because he considered and turned from all the sins he had done, he will surely live; he will not die.

They stretch out on clothing seized as collateral; they do so right beside every altar! They drink wine bought with the fines they have levied; they do so right in the temple of their God!

oppresses the poor and the needy, commits robbery, does not give back what was given in pledge, prays to idols, performs abominable acts,

does not oppress anyone or keep what has been given in pledge, does not commit robbery, gives his food to the hungry, and clothes the naked,

One must not take either lower or upper millstones as security on a loan, for that is like taking a life itself as security.
