For we too were once foolish, disobedient, deceived, enslaved by various passions and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, detesting one another.

We too all previously lived among them in our fleshly desires, carrying out the inclinations of our flesh and thoughts, and we were by nature children under wrath as the others were also.

So, then, remember that at one time you were Gentiles in the flesh— called“ the uncircumcised” by those called“ the circumcised,” which is done in the flesh by human hands.At that time you were without Christ, excluded from the citizenship of Israel, and foreigners to the covenants of promise, without hope and without God in the world.

What then? Are we any better off? Not at all! For we have already charged that both Jews and Greeks are all under sin,

Abraham did not do this.You’re doing what your father does.”“ We weren’t born of sexual immorality,” they said.“ We have one Father— God.”

The woman was a Gentile, a Syrophoenician by birth, and she was asking him to cast the demon out of her daughter.He said to her,“ Let the children be fed first, because it isn’t right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.”But she replied to him,“ Lord, even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.”

When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples,“ Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

and then sent you on a mission and said,‘ Go and completely destroy the sinful Amalekites. Fight against them until you have annihilated them.’

This is why the promise is by faith, so that it may be according to grace, to guarantee it to all the descendants— not only to the one who is of the law but also to the one who is of Abraham’s faith. He is the father of us all.
