Now that this faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian.

The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. For after he says:This is the covenant I will make with them after those days, the Lord says, I will put my laws on their hearts and write them on their minds,and I will never again remember their sins and their lawless acts.Now where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer an offering for sin.

Therefore, my brothers and sisters, you also were put to death in relation to the law through the body of Christ so that you may belong to another. You belong to him who was raised from the dead in order that we may bear fruit for God.

Now if perfection came through the Levitical priesthood( for on the basis of it the people received the law), what further need was there for another priest to appear, said to be according to the order of Melchizedek and not according to the order of Aaron?For when there is a change of the priesthood, there must be a change of law as well.For the one these things are spoken about belonged to a different tribe. No one from it has served at the altar.Now it is evident that our Lord came from Judah, and Moses said nothing about that tribe concerning priests.And this becomes clearer if another priest like Melchizedek appears,who did not become a priest based on a legal regulation about physical descent but based on the power of an indestructible life.For it has been testified: You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.So the previous command is annulled because it was weak and unprofitable( for the law perfected nothing), but a better hope is introduced, through which we draw near to God.

For every high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices; therefore, it was necessary for this priest also to have something to offer.Now if he were on earth, he wouldn’t be a priest, since there are those offering the gifts prescribed by the law.These serve as a copy and shadow of the heavenly things, as Moses was warned when he was about to complete the tabernacle. For God said, Be careful that you make everything according to the pattern that was shown to you on the mountain.But Jesus has now obtained a superior ministry, and to that degree he is the mediator of a better covenant, which has been established on better promises.For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion for a second one.But finding fault with his people, he says: See, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah—not like the covenant that I made with their ancestors on the day I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt. I showed no concern for them, says the Lord, because they did not continue in my covenant.For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.And each person will not teach his fellow citizen, and each his brother or sister, saying,“ Know the Lord,” because they will all know me, from the least to the greatest of them.For I will forgive their wrongdoing, and I will never again remember their sins.By saying a new covenant, he has declared that the first is obsolete. And what is obsolete and growing old is about to pass away.

Now I say that as long as the heir is a child, he differs in no way from a slave, though he is the owner of everything.Instead, he is under guardians and trustees until the time set by his father.In the same way we also, when we were children, were in slavery under the elements of the world.When the time came to completion, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,to redeem those under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.And because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying,“ Abba, Father!”
