He made the moon to mark the seasons; the sun knows its time for setting.You make darkness, and it is night, when all the beasts of the forest creep about.

Yours is the day, yours also the night; you have established the heavenly lights and the sun.You have fixed all the boundaries of the earth; you have made summer and winter.

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?

Praise him, sun and moon, praise him, all you shining stars!

Thus says the Lord, who gives the sun for light by day and the fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar— the Lord of hosts is his name:

By your appointment they stand this day, for all things are your servants.

“ And on that day,” declares the Lord God,“ I will make the sun go down at noon and darken the earth in broad daylight.

Let the stars of its dawn be dark; let it hope for light, but have none, nor see the eyelids of the morning,

“ Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
