亚伯兰的妻子撒莱没有为他生孩子。撒莱有一个埃及婢女，名叫夏甲。

耶和华的使者在旷野的水泉旁，就是书珥路上的水泉旁，找到了夏甲，

迦南的边界从西顿延伸到基拉耳，直到加沙；又延伸到所多玛、格摩拉、押玛、洗扁，直到拉沙。

亚比米勒和他的谋士亚户撒，以及他军队的首领非革，从基拉耳来到以撒那里。

耶和华的声音震撼旷野，耶和华震撼加低斯的旷野。

基拉耳的牧人们与以撒的牧人们争论，说：“这水是我们的。”以撒就给这口井起名为埃色，因为他们与他相争。

当时，以撒住在南地，刚从比珥-拉海-罗伊回来。
