So when the Midianite merchants came by, his brothers pulled Joseph up out of the cistern and sold him for twenty shekels of silver to the Ishmaelites, who took him to Egypt.

The traders from Midian came by. Joseph’s brothers pulled him up out of the well. They sold him to the Ishmaelite traders for eight ounces of silver. Then the traders took him to Egypt.

He sent a man before them, Joseph, who was sold as a slave.

“ The patriarchs became jealous of Joseph and sold him into Egypt. Yet God was with him,

Then the sons of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord; and the Lord handed them over to Midian for seven years.The power of Midian prevailed against Israel. Then they sat down to eat a meal. But as they raised their eyes and looked, behold, a caravan of Ishmaelites was coming from Gilead, with their camels carrying labdanum resin, balsam, and myrrh, on their way to bring them down to Egypt.

She bore to him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.

Meanwhile, the Midianites sold him in Egypt to Potiphar, Pharaoh’s officer, the captain of the bodyguard.

Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters; and they came to draw water and filled the troughs to water their father’s flock.

They killed the kings of Midian along with the rest of those killed: Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian. They also killed Balaam the son of Beor with the sword.And the sons of Israel took captive the women of Midian and their little ones; and they plundered all their cattle, all their flocks, and all their property.

and said,“ What are you willing to give me to betray Him to you?” And they set out for him thirty pieces of silver.

“ Take vengeance on the Midianites for the sons of Israel; afterward you will be gathered to your people.”So Moses spoke to the people, saying,“ Arm men from among you for the war, so that they may go against Midian to execute the Lord’s vengeance on Midian.

And I said to them,“ If it is good in your sight, give me my wages; but if not, never mind!” So they weighed out thirty shekels of silver as my wages.Then the Lord said to me,“ Throw it to the potter, that magnificent price at which I was valued by them.” So I took the thirty shekels of silver and threw them to the potter in the house of the Lord.

Then that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled:“ And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of the One whose price had been set by the sons of Israel;

Yet Gideon said to them,“ I would request of you, that each of you give me an earring from his plunder.”( For they had gold earrings, because they were Ishmaelites.)

A multitude of camels will cover you, The young camels of Midian and Ephah; All those from Sheba will come; They will bring gold and frankincense, And proclaim good news of the praises of the Lord.

And the name of the Midianite woman who was killed was Cozbi the daughter of Zur, who was head of the people of a father’s household in Midian.

Then the men of Israel said to Gideon,“ Rule over us, both you and your son, your son’s son as well, for you have saved us from the hand of Midian!”

Deal with them as with Midian, As with Sisera and Jabin at the river of Kishon,

“ Be hostile to the Midianites and attack them;
