All his sons and daughters came to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted.“ No,” he said,“ I will continue to mourn until I join my son in the grave.” So his father wept for him.

The elders of his house stood over him and tried to lift him from the ground, but he was unwilling, and refused to eat food with them.

When Job’s three friends heard about all this calamity that had happened to him, each of them came from his own country– Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite. They met together to come to show sympathy for him and to console him.

The LORD says,“ A sound is heard in Ramah, a sound of crying in bitter grief. It is the sound of Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because her children are gone.”

In my time of trouble I sought the Lord. I kept my hand raised in prayer throughout the night. I refused to be comforted.

But we said to him,‘ We are honest men; we are not spies!

Then Israel said,“ Enough! My son Joseph is still alive! I will go and see him before I die.”

Jacob had twelve sons:The sons of Leah were Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn, as well as Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.The sons of Rachel were Joseph and Benjamin.The sons of Bilhah, Rachel’s servant, were Dan and Naphtali.The sons of Zilpah, Leah’s servant, were Gad and Asher. These were the sons of Jacob who were born to him in Paddan Aram.

If you take this one from me too and an accident happens to him, then you will bring down my gray hair in tragedy to the grave.’“ So now, when I return to your servant my father, and the boy is not with us– his very life is bound up in his son’s life.When he sees the boy is not with us, he will die, and your servants will bring down the gray hair of your servant our father in sorrow to the grave.

Laban replied to Jacob,“ These women are my daughters, these children are my grandchildren, and these flocks are my flocks. All that you see belongs to me. But how can I harm these daughters of mine today or the children to whom they have given birth?
