and named him Noah. Lamech said,“ He will comfort us when we are working. He’ll comfort us when our hands work so hard they hurt. We have to work hard because the Lord put a curse on the ground.”

He named him Noah and said,“ He will comfort us in the labor and painful toil of our hands caused by the ground the Lord has cursed.”

and called his name Noah, saying,“ Out of the ground that the Lord has cursed, this one shall bring us relief from our work and from the painful toil of our hands.”

Lamech named his son Noah, for he said,“ May he bring us relief from our work and the painful labor of farming this ground that the Lord has cursed.”

And he named him Noah, saying,“ This one will bring us relief from the agonizing labor of our hands, caused by the ground the LORD has cursed.”

And he named him Noah, saying,“ This one will give us comfort from our work and from the hard labor of our hands caused by the ground which the Lord has cursed.”

And he called his name Noah, saying,“ This one will comfort us concerning our work and the toil of our hands, because of the ground which the Lord has cursed.”

and he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us in our work and in the toil of our hands, which cometh because of the ground which Jehovah hath cursed.

The Lord God said to Adam,“ You listened to your wife’s suggestion. You ate fruit from the tree I warned you about. I said,‘ You must not eat its fruit.’“ So I am putting a curse on the ground because of what you did. All the days of your life you will have to work hard. It will be painful for you to get food from the ground.You will eat plants from the field, even though the ground produces thorns and prickly weeds.You will have to work hard and sweat a lot to produce the food you eat. You were made out of the ground. You will return to it when you die. You are dust, and you will return to dust.”

And suppose Noah, Daniel and Job were in that land. Then they could not save their own sons or daughters. They could save only themselves by doing what is right. And that is just as sure as I am alive,” announces the Lord and King.

Then Noah woke up from his sleep that was caused by the wine. He found out what his youngest son had done to him.

Shelah was the son of Cainan. Cainan was the son of Arphaxad. Arphaxad was the son of Shem. Shem was the son of Noah. Noah was the son of Lamech.

But the Lord was very pleased with Noah.Here is the story of Noah’s family line. Noah was a godly man. He was without blame among the people of his time. He walked faithfully with God.

God did not spare the world’s ungodly people long ago. He brought the flood on them. But Noah preached about the right way to live. God kept him safe. He also saved seven others.

Every living thing on earth was wiped out. People and animals were destroyed. The creatures that move along the ground and the birds in the sky were wiped out. Everything on earth was destroyed. Only Noah and those with him in the ark were left.

“ Remember how it was in the days of Noah. It will be the same when the Son of Man comes.People were eating and drinking. They were getting married. They were giving their daughters to be married. They did all those things right up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all.

So I am putting a curse on you. I am driving you away from this ground. It has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand.When you farm the land, it will not produce its crops for you anymore. You will be a restless person who wanders around on the earth.”

Remember how it was in the days of Noah. It will be the same when the Son of Man comes.

Long ago these spirits did not obey. That was when God was patient while Noah was building the ark. And only a few people went into the ark. In fact, there were only eight. Those eight people were saved through water.

“ During Noah’s time I made a promise. I said I would never cover the earth with water again. In the same way, I have promised not to be angry with you. I will never punish you again.

And suppose Noah, Daniel and Job were in that country. Then these three men could save only themselves by doing what is right,” announces the Lord and King.

Noah had faith. So he built an ark to save his family. He built it because of his great respect for God. God had warned him about things that could not yet be seen. Because of his faith Noah showed the world that it was guilty. Because of his faith he was considered right with God.
