It was by faith that Noah built a large boat to save his family from the flood. He obeyed God, who warned him about things that had never happened before. By his faith Noah condemned the rest of the world, and he received the righteousness that comes by faith.

By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith.

Noah had faith. So he built an ark to save his family. He built it because of his great respect for God. God had warned him about things that could not yet be seen. Because of his faith Noah showed the world that it was guilty. Because of his faith he was considered right with God.

By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.

those who disobeyed God long ago when God waited patiently while Noah was building his boat. Only eight people were saved from drowning in that terrible flood.

Clearly, God’s promise to give the whole earth to Abraham and his descendants was based not on his obedience to God’s law, but on a right relationship with God that comes by faith.

Even if Noah, Daniel, and Job were there, their righteousness would save no one but themselves, says the Sovereign Lord.

So God said to Noah,“ I have decided to destroy all living creatures, for they have filled the earth with violence. Yes, I will wipe them all out along with the earth!“ Build a large boat from cypress wood and waterproof it with tar, inside and out. Then construct decks and stalls throughout its interior.Make the boat 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high.Leave an 18 inch opening below the roof all the way around the boat. Put the door on the side, and build three decks inside the boat— lower, middle, and upper.“ Look! I am about to cover the earth with a flood that will destroy every living thing that breathes. Everything on earth will die.But I will confirm my covenant with you. So enter the boat— you and your wife and your sons and their wives.Bring a pair of every kind of animal— a male and a female— into the boat with you to keep them alive during the flood.Pairs of every kind of bird, and every kind of animal, and every kind of small animal that scurries along the ground, will come to you to be kept alive.And be sure to take on board enough food for your family and for all the animals.”So Noah did everything exactly as God had commanded him.When everything was ready, the Lord said to Noah,“ Go into the boat with all your family, for among all the people of the earth, I can see that you alone are righteous.

God wiped out every living thing on the earth— people, livestock, small animals that scurry along the ground, and the birds of the sky. All were destroyed. The only people who survived were Noah and those with him in the boat.

A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.

As surely as I live, says the Sovereign Lord, even if Noah, Daniel, and Job were there, they wouldn’t be able to save their own sons or daughters. They alone would be saved by their righteousness.

“ When the Son of Man returns, it will be like it was in Noah’s day.

This letter is from Simon Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ. I am writing to you who share the same precious faith we have. This faith was given to you because of the justice and fairness of Jesus Christ, our God and Savior.

And God did not spare the ancient world— except for Noah and the seven others in his family. Noah warned the world of God’s righteous judgment. So God protected Noah when he destroyed the world of ungodly people with a vast flood.

We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.

But we who live by the Spirit eagerly wait to receive by faith the righteousness God has promised to us.

“ The people of Nineveh will stand up against this generation on judgment day and condemn it, for they repented of their sins at the preaching of Jonah. Now someone greater than Jonah is here— but you refuse to repent.The queen of Sheba will also stand up against this generation on judgment day and condemn it, for she came from a distant land to hear the wisdom of Solomon. Now someone greater than Solomon is here— but you refuse to listen.

and become one with him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith.

Then he used the water to destroy the ancient world with a mighty flood.

But when he saw many Pharisees and Sadducees coming to watch him baptize, he denounced them.“ You brood of snakes!” he exclaimed.“ Who warned you to flee the coming wrath?

So Lot rushed out to tell his daughters’ fiancés,“ Quick, get out of the city! The Lord is about to destroy it.” But the young men thought he was only joking.

“ Son of man, I have appointed you as a watchman for Israel. Whenever you receive a message from me, warn people immediately.If I warn the wicked, saying,‘ You are under the penalty of death,’ but you fail to deliver the warning, they will die in their sins. And I will hold you responsible for their deaths.If you warn them and they refuse to repent and keep on sinning, they will die in their sins. But you will have saved yourself because you obeyed me.

Circumcision was a sign that Abraham already had faith and that God had already accepted him and declared him to be righteous— even before he was circumcised. So Abraham is the spiritual father of those who have faith but have not been circumcised. They are counted as righteous because of their faith.

“ Leave the boat, all of you— you and your wife, and your sons and their wives.

“ The day is coming when you will see what Daniel the prophet spoke about— the sacrilegious object that causes desecration standing in the Holy Place.”( Reader, pay attention!)

What does all this mean? Even though the Gentiles were not trying to follow God’s standards, they were made right with God. And it was by faith that this took place.

But faith’s way of getting right with God says,“ Don’t say in your heart,‘ Who will go up to heaven?’( to bring Christ down to earth).

In those days before the flood, the people were enjoying banquets and parties and weddings right up to the time Noah entered his boat.

While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God.

So tomorrow at this time I will send a hailstorm more devastating than any in all the history of Egypt.Quick! Order your livestock and servants to come in from the fields to find shelter. Any person or animal left outside will die when the hail falls.’”Some of Pharaoh’s officials were afraid because of what the Lord had said. They quickly brought their servants and livestock in from the fields.But those who paid no attention to the word of the Lord left theirs out in the open.

So Noah did everything as the Lord commanded him.

This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say,“ It is through faith that a righteous person has life.”

See, I have warned you about this ahead of time.

This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, the only blameless person living on earth at the time, and he walked in close fellowship with God.

Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.
