When they became angry, they struck down nations. Their blows never stopped. In their anger they brought nations under their control. They attacked them again and again.

You struck the people with endless blows of rage and held the nations in your angry grip with unrelenting tyranny.

He who struck the people in wrath with a continual stroke, He who ruled the nations in anger, Is persecuted and no one hinders.

declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying,‘ My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose,’calling a bird of prey from the east, the man of my counsel from a far country. I have spoken, and I will bring it to pass; I have purposed, and I will do it.

No wisdom, no understanding, no counsel can avail against the Lord.

“ Behold, I am against you, O proud one, declares the Lord God of hosts, for your day has come, the time when I will punish you.

“ God will not turn back his anger; beneath him bowed the helpers of Rahab.

And like a hunted gazelle, or like sheep with none to gather them, each will turn to his own people, and each will flee to his own land.Whoever is found will be thrust through, and whoever is caught will fall by the sword.Their infants will be dashed in pieces before their eyes; their houses will be plundered and their wives ravished.Behold, I am stirring up the Medes against them, who have no regard for silver and do not delight in gold.Their bows will slaughter the young men; they will have no mercy on the fruit of the womb; their eyes will not pity children.

My hand has found like a nest the wealth of the peoples; and as one gathers eggs that have been forsaken, so I have gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved a wing or opened the mouth or chirped.”

Therefore he brought up against them the king of the Chaldeans, who killed their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary and had no compassion on young man or virgin, old man or aged. He gave them all into his hand.

Ah, you destroyer, who yourself have not been destroyed, you traitor, whom none has betrayed! When you have ceased to destroy, you will be destroyed; and when you have finished betraying, they will betray you.

For judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
