All the nations gather together and the peoples assemble. Which of their gods foretold this and proclaimed to us the former things? Let them bring in their witnesses to prove they were right, so that others may hear and say,“ It is true.”

耶和华说：“呈上你们的案件吧！”雅各的王说：“把你们有力的证据拿来吧！”让它们前来告诉我们将要发生的事。以前的是什么事，让它们告诉我们，好叫我们用心思想，得知事情的结局。或者向我们宣告那要来的事。把以后要来的事告诉我们，好叫我们知道你们是神；你们作这些事，或降福或降祸，以致我们彼此对望，一齐观看。看哪！你们属于无有，你们的作为都属于虚空，那选择你们的是可厌恶的。我从北方兴起一人，他就来了；他从日出之地而来，呼求我的名；他必来践踏掌权的，好像践踏灰泥，又像陶匠踹泥一样。谁从起初讲说这事，使我们知道呢？谁从先前说明，以致我们说“他没有错”呢？谁也没有说明，谁也没有宣告，谁也没有听见你们的话！

你可以提醒我，我们可以一起辩论；你尽管细说案情，好使你自显为义。

众海岛啊！你们要在我面前静默，愿万民重新得力。让他们近前来，然后说话，让我们聚在一起辩论吧！

谁像我呢？让他宣告，让他述说，又在我面前陈明吧！自从我设立古时的子民，未来的事和将要发生的事，让他们把它们述说出来吧！你们不要惊惶，也不要惧怕。我不是老早就说了给你们听，告诉了你们吗？你们就是我的见证人。除我以外，还有真神吗？没有别的磐石；我一个也不知道。”制造偶像的人，尽都是虚空的，他们所喜爱的，都没有益处。他们的见证人，一无所见，一无所知，以致他们蒙羞。

所以我从古时就告诉了你；在事情还没有发生以前，我就说给你听了，免得你说：‘这些事是我的偶像所作的，是我的雕像和铸像所命定的。’你已经听见了，现在要注意这一切事。难道你不述说吗？从今以后，我要把新的事，就是你不知道的隐秘的事，告诉你。

以利亚走近众人说：“你们三心两意，要到几时呢？如果耶和华是神，你们就应当随从耶和华；如果巴力是神，你们就应当随从巴力。”众人一句话也不回答。以利亚对众人说：“耶和华的先知只剩下我一个，巴力的先知却有四百五十个。现在，请给我们两头公牛。让巴力的先知自己挑选一头，把它切成块子，放在柴上，但不要点火；我也预备一头公牛，摆在柴上，也不点火。你们呼求你们神的名，我也呼求耶和华的名。那降火来显示回答的神就是神了。”众人都回答：“这话说得很好！”

四围的列国啊！你们快来帮助，在那里一同聚集。耶和华啊！求你叫你的勇士下来吧。

万民哪！你们要听这话；世上的居民哪！你们要留心听。不论地位高低，或贫或富，都要一同留心听。

如果你们认为事奉耶和华不好，那么今日你们就可以选择你们所要事奉的：是你们列祖在大河那边事奉的神呢，还是你们现在所住亚摩利人之地的神呢？至于我和我家，我们必事奉耶和华。”众民回答：“我们绝对不会离弃耶和华，去事奉别的神；因为耶和华我们的神把我们和我们的列祖，从埃及地为奴的家领出来，并且在我们眼前行了那些伟大的神迹；又在我们所行的一切路上，和我们经过的一切民族中间，他都保护了我们；耶和华又把所有的民族和住在这地的亚摩利人，都从我们面前赶走；所以我们必事奉耶和华，因为他是我们的神。”约书亚对众民说：“你们不能事奉耶和华，因为他是圣洁的神；他是嫉妒的神，他必不赦免你们的过犯和罪恶。如果你们离弃耶和华，去事奉外族人的神，那么在耶和华赐福给你们之后，他必转而降祸与你们，把你们消灭。”众民对约书亚说：“不，我们必定事奉耶和华。”约书亚对众民说：“你们选择了耶和华，要事奉他，你们为自己作证吧。”他们说：“我们愿意作证。”约书亚说：“现在你们要除掉在你们中间外族人的神，一心归向耶和华以色列的神。”众民对约书亚说：“我们必事奉耶和华我们的神，必听从他的话。”

到了献晚祭的时候，以利亚先知近前来，说：“亚伯拉罕、以撒、以色列的神耶和华，求你今天使人知道你是在以色列中的神，我是你的仆人，又是奉你的命令行这一切事。耶和华啊，求你应允我，应允我！使这民知道你耶和华是神，又知道是你使这民的心再回转过来的。”于是有耶和华的火降下来，吞灭了燔祭、木柴、石头和尘土，连沟里的水也烧干了。众人看见了，就面伏于地，说：“耶和华是神！耶和华是神！”

列国啊！你们都要集合起来听。他们中间有谁预言过这些事呢？耶和华爱他，他必向巴比伦行他所喜悦的；他的膀臂也必击打迦勒底人。

“列国逃脱的人哪！你们要来集合，一同近前来。那些抬着木头做的偶像，向不能拯救人的神祈求的，真是无知。你们述说吧！提出理由吧！让他们彼此商议吧！谁从古时使人听见这事呢？谁从上古把这事述说出来呢？不是我耶和华吗？除了我以外，再没有神，我是公义的神，又是拯救者；除了我以外，并没有别的神。

我从起初就宣告末后的事，从古时就述说还未作成的事，说：‘我的计划必定成功，我所喜悦的，我都必作成。’
