於是，他們拿住耶利米，用繩子把他縋到王子瑪基雅的蓄水池裡。那池子在護衛兵的院子裡，池中沒有水，只有淤泥。耶利米就陷在淤泥中。那時，王正坐在便雅憫門口。宮廷侍臣古實人以伯·米勒聽說他們把耶利米囚在蓄水池裡，便從王宮跑去對王說：「我主我王啊！這些人對耶利米先知太狠毒了。他們把他丟在蓄水池裡，他必餓死在那裡，因為城中絕糧了。」於是，王吩咐古實人以伯·米勒率領三十人，在耶利米先知未死之前把他從池中救出來。以伯·米勒帶著他的手下進入王宮，從庫房下面的房間拿了些碎布和破衣，用繩索縋到池底給耶利米，讓他把這些碎布和破衣墊在腋下，以免被繩索勒傷。耶利米就照做了。他們便把耶利米從池中拉上來拘留在護衛兵的院子裡。

忽然，有一位主的天使站在彼得身旁，監牢內一片光明，天使拍他的肋旁，把他叫醒，說：「趕快起來！」鐵鏈就從他手上脫落下來。天使對他說：「束上腰帶，穿好鞋子。」彼得一一照辦。天使又說：「披上外衣，跟我來！」

於是，猶大和便雅憫的族長、祭司和利未人——所有被上帝感動的人都準備上耶路撒冷重建耶和華的殿。

他們不再饑渴，也不再被熱風和烈日灼傷，因為憐憫他們的那位必引導他們，領他們到泉水邊。

耶利米被囚禁在地牢中許多天。

他們把我推進坑裡，又用石頭砸我。水已經漫過我的頭，我想我要滅亡了。
