烈日以曝之、毒熱以薰之、而草槁矣、而花落矣、而其美亡矣。富貴之終歸衰落亦復如是。

For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich will fade away even while they go about their business.

有富人衣紫袍細布、日事華靡宴樂、有貧者名拉撒路、生瘍、人置富者之門、欲以富人几下遺屑飽己、犬來舐其瘍、貧者死、天使扶置亞伯拉罕懷、富人亦死而葬、陰間痛苦之際、舉目遙見亞伯拉罕、懷中有拉撒路、呼曰、我祖亞伯拉罕、矜恤我、遣拉撒路指尖蘸水涼我舌、蓋此火燄中苦甚、亞伯拉罕曰、子當憶、生前受諸福、拉撒路受諸難、今彼慰、而爾苦焉、

故日出暴之、無根而槁、

然土不深、故日出曝之、無根而槁、

我見惡者強暴、蔓衍葱蘢、若茂樹兮、曾幾何時、其人已非、不得其所兮。

富者當思將來之苦而號泣、財自傷、衣自蠹、金銀黯敗、其黯為證、若火之燃、災及其身、蓋爾所積、必見鞫於末日、穫爾田之傭、不給其值、則籲呼升聞於萬有之主、爾處世、樂宴樂、縱淫佚、以快心志、猶牲牷肥腯、以待宰割、爾誣義者而殺之、彼不沮尼爾、兄弟當忍、待主降臨、如地產嘉穀、農夫忍待、望秋霖春雨、

享世勿過度、蓋變遷者世故、

余之生命、如影沉西、如草凋零兮、

詰旦昧爽、上帝使蟲嚙蓖蔴、遂至枯槁、日出時、上帝使風東來、其氣炎熇日暴約拿之首、使之喪魂求死、曰、寧死不生、

胸膈脂充、百骸髓滿。或至死、困苦盈懷、終不享福、要皆長眠黃土、蚯蚓盤其上。我知爾狡、欲以口給禦人。爾曰、霸者之殿安在、惡人之宅烏存。何不詢諸行路之人、以其言為據、其言曰、為惡之人、亦蒙矜憫、死之日友朋送喪。

維彼惡人、雨置諸險滑之途、擲諸死亡之地兮、猝然喪敗、殲滅殆盡、主勃然而興、如夢警醒、藐視其浮華兮。

彼恃貨財、誇豐富兮、然生命將絕、雖有密友不能贖之、而上帝錫以齡兮、生命之價、既貴且昂、欲贖無從兮、不能壽世而體不朽兮、我觀智慧者死、愚蠢者亡、遺業於後兮、揣彼之心、意謂家必恆存、室可垂後、聲名揚於寰宇兮、人爵雖顯、不得永存、猶禽獸之速亡兮。世人所為、不智孰甚、後人效之兮、瘟滅若羊、蚯蚓嘬兮、彼在塚中、形骸喪兮、至於異日、義人勝之兮、

蓋裸而出世、必裸而歸土、所勤勞而得者、毫不能攜。

以法蓮建都於山嶺、望之若冠花冠、四周有谷、土壤膏腴、民人沉湎於酒、心志驕奢、不知浮榮易悴、禍將作矣。

不復饑渴、日不得而暴、暑不得而侵、矜憫之者牧之導之、至於水源。

牧長顯著時、則得大賚、加以冠冕、其榮不敝、
