But be sure you live out the message and do not merely listen to it and so deceive yourselves.

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

“ Why do you call me‘ Lord, Lord,’ and don’t do what I tell you?“ Everyone who comes to me and listens to my words and puts them into practice– I will show you what he is like:He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep, and laid the foundation on bedrock. When a flood came, the river burst against that house but could not shake it, because it had been well built.

So whoever knows what is good to do and does not do it is guilty of sin.

But he replied,“ Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it!”

What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but does not have works? Can this kind of faith save him?If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacks daily food,and one of you says to them,“ Go in peace, keep warm and eat well,” but you do not give them what the body needs, what good is it?So also faith, if it does not have works, is dead being by itself.But someone will say,“ You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith without works and I will show you faith by my works.You believe that God is one; well and good. Even the demons believe that– and tremble with fear.But would you like evidence, you empty fellow, that faith without works is useless?

For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”

And whatever you do in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Go away from me, you lawbreakers!’“ Everyone who hears these words of mine and does them is like a wise man who built his house on rock.The rain fell, the flood came, and the winds beat against that house, but it did not collapse because it had been founded on rock.Everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.The rain fell, the flood came, and the winds beat against that house, and it collapsed; it was utterly destroyed!”

Do not be deceived. God will not be made a fool. For a person will reap what he sows,

If someone thinks he is religious yet does not bridle his tongue, and so deceives his heart, his religion is futile.

That servant who knew his master’s will but did not get ready or do what his master asked will receive a severe beating.But the one who did not know his master’s will and did things worthy of punishment will receive a light beating. From everyone who has been given much, much will be required, and from the one who has been entrusted with much, even more will be asked.

They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done. Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you. (niv)

while evildoers and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. (niv)

Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become“ fools” so that you may become wise. (niv)
