Your descendants will take possession of the strongholds of their enemies.Because you have obeyed me, all the nations of the earth will pronounce blessings on one another using the name of your descendants.’”

You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.

When they came to the place God had told him about, Abraham built the altar there and arranged the wood on it. Next he tied up his son Isaac and placed him on the altar on top of the wood.Then Abraham reached out his hand, took the knife, and prepared to slaughter his son.But the LORD’s angel called to him from heaven,“ Abraham! Abraham!”“ Here I am!” he answered.“ Do not harm the boy!” the angel said.“ Do not do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God because you did not withhold your son, your only son, from me.”

but I took your father Abraham from beyond the Euphrates and brought him into the entire land of Canaan. I made his descendants numerous; I gave him Isaac,

For no one is declared righteous before him by the works of the law, for through the law comes the knowledge of sin.

the oath that he swore to our ancestor Abraham. This oath grants

So he called out,‘ Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in anguish in this fire.’

Then the rich man said,‘ No, father Abraham, but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’

So he replied,“ Brothers and fathers, listen to me. The God of glory appeared to our forefather Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he settled in Haran,

For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

and don’t think you can say to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that God can raise up children for Abraham from these stones!

You aren’t greater than our father Abraham who died, are you? And the prophets died too! Who do you claim to be?”

Do not sit in judgment on your servant, for no one alive is innocent before you.

For this reason it is by faith so that it may be by grace, with the result that the promise may be certain to all the descendants– not only to those who are under the law, but also to those who have the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all

And he is also the father of the circumcised, who are not only circumcised, but who also walk in the footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham possessed when he was still uncircumcised.

What then shall we say that Abraham, our ancestor according to the flesh, has discovered regarding this matter?

They answered him,“ Abraham is our father!” Jesus replied,“ If you are Abraham’s children, you would be doing the deeds of Abraham.

“ When the Son of Man comes in his glory and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne.All the nations will be assembled before him, and he will separate people one from another like a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.Then the king will say to those on his right,‘ Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.’Then the righteous will answer him,‘ Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or naked and clothe you?When did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’And the king will answer them,‘ I tell you the truth, just as you did it for one of the least of these brothers or sisters of mine, you did it for me.’

Look at Abraham, your father, and Sarah, who gave you birth. When I summoned him, he was a lone individual, but I blessed him and gave him numerous descendants.

But someone will say,“ You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith without works and I will show you faith by my works.
