如是、舌為小體、而誇大焉、些須之火、能燃若大之林、

舌雖小而能誇大、薪甚多、微火可燃、

如是舌為小體、而能誇大、薪甚多、薪甚多或作林甚茂微火可燃、

舌在人身、亦復如是其形雖小、其誇實大。星星之火、可以燎原；

Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.

In the same way, the tongue is a small part of a person’s body. But it talks big. Think about how a small spark can set a big forest on fire.

So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire!

Through deceit, they refuse to know me,” says Yahweh.Therefore Yahweh of Armies says,“ Behold, I will melt them and test them; for how should I deal with the daughter of my people?Their tongue is a deadly arrow. It speaks deceit. One speaks peaceably to his neighbor with his mouth, but in his heart, he waits to ambush him.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue; those who love it will eat its fruit.

They close up their callous hearts. With their mouth they speak proudly.

The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouth of fools gush out folly.

They scoff and speak with malice. In arrogance, they threaten oppression.They have set their mouth in the heavens. Their tongue walks through the earth.

Why do you boast of mischief, mighty man? God’s loving kindness endures continually.Your tongue plots destruction, like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

There is one who speaks rashly like the piercing of a sword, but the tongue of the wise heals.

For the wicked boasts of his heart’s cravings. He blesses the greedy and condemns Yahweh.

Everyone lies to his neighbor. They speak with flattering lips, and with a double heart.May Yahweh cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that boasts,who have said,“ With our tongue we will prevail. Our lips are our own. Who is lord over us?”

“ Son of man, tell the prince of Tyre,‘ The Lord Yahweh says:“ Because your heart is lifted up, and you have said,‘ I am a god, I sit in the seat of God, in the middle of the seas;’ yet you are man, and not God, though you set your heart as the heart of God—

Then they said,“ Come! Let’s devise plans against Jeremiah; for the law won’t perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let’s strike him with the tongue, and let’s not give heed to any of his words.”

A mouth speaking great things and blasphemy was given to him. Authority to make war for forty- two months was given to him.He opened his mouth for blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his dwelling, those who dwell in heaven.

These are murmurers and complainers, walking after their lusts— and their mouth speaks proud things— showing respect of persons to gain advantage.

The enemy said,‘ I will pursue. I will overtake. I will divide the plunder. My desire will be satisfied on them. I will draw my sword. My hand will destroy them.’

The king spoke and said,“ Is not this great Babylon, which I have built for the royal dwelling place, by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?”

who said to God,‘ Depart from us;’ and,‘ What can the Almighty do for us?’

Whom have you defied and blasphemed? Against whom have you exalted your voice and lifted up your eyes on high? Against the Holy One of Israel!By your messengers, you have defied the Lord, and have said,“ With the multitude of my chariots, I have come up to the height of the mountains, to the innermost parts of Lebanon, and I will cut down its tall cedars and its choice cypress trees; and I will enter into his farthest lodging place, the forest of his fruitful field.I have dug and drunk strange waters, and I will dry up all the rivers of Egypt with the sole of my feet.”

They tell God,‘ Depart from us, for we don’t want to know about your ways.What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? What profit should we have, if we pray to him?’

For, uttering great swelling words of emptiness, they entice in the lusts of the flesh, by licentiousness, those who are indeed escaping from those who live in error;

Now if you are ready whenever you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music to fall down and worship the image which I have made, good; but if you don’t worship, you shall be cast the same hour into the middle of a burning fiery furnace. Who is that god that will deliver you out of my hands?”

Pharaoh said,“ Who is Yahweh, that I should listen to his voice to let Israel go? I don’t know Yahweh, and moreover I will not let Israel go.”

Speak and say,‘ The Lord Yahweh says:“ Behold, I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great monster that lies in the middle of his rivers, that has said,‘ My river is my own, and I have made it for myself.’
