从埃及前的西曷河往北，直到以革伦的境界，就算属迦南人之地。有非利士人五个首领所管的迦萨人、亚实突人、亚实基伦人、迦特人、以革伦人之地，并有南方亚卫人之地。

以法莲好像鸽子愚蠢无知；他们求告埃及，投奔亚述。

祸哉！那些下埃及求帮助的，是因仗赖马匹，倚靠甚多的车辆，并倚靠强壮的马兵，却不仰望以色列的圣者，也不求问耶和华。

你为何东跑西奔要更换你的路呢？你必因埃及蒙羞，像从前因亚述蒙羞一样。

法老的军队已经从埃及出来，那围困耶路撒冷的迦勒底人听见他们的风声，就拔营离开耶路撒冷去了。耶和华的话临到先知耶利米说：“耶和华以色列的神如此说：犹大王打发你们来求问我，你们要如此对他说：‘那出来帮助你们法老的军队必回埃及本国去。迦勒底人必再来攻打这城，并要攻取，用火焚烧。耶和华如此说：你们不要自欺说“迦勒底人必定离开我们”，因为他们必不离开。你们即便杀败了与你们争战的迦勒底全军，但剩下受伤的人也必各人从帐棚里起来，用火焚烧这城。’”

“以法莲见自己有病，犹大见自己有伤，他们就打发人往亚述去见耶雷布王，他却不能医治你们，不能治好你们的伤。

亚述王提革拉毗列色上来，却没有帮助他，反倒欺凌他。亚哈斯从耶和华殿里和王宫中，并首领家内所取的财宝给了亚述王，这也无济于事。

我们仰望人来帮助，以致眼目失明，还是枉然；我们所盼望的，竟盼望一个不能救人的国！

他却背叛巴比伦王，打发使者往埃及去，要他们给他马匹和多民。他岂能亨通呢？行这样事的人岂能逃脱呢？他背约岂能逃脱呢？

亚哈斯差遣使者去见亚述王提革拉毗列色，说：“我是你的仆人、你的儿子。现在亚兰王和以色列王攻击我，求你来救我脱离他们的手。”亚哈斯将耶和华殿里和王宫府库里所有的金银都送给亚述王为礼物。亚述王应允了他，就上去攻打大马士革，将城攻取，杀了利汛，把居民掳到吉珥。

耶和华说：“祸哉！这悖逆的儿女。他们同谋，却不由于我，结盟，却不由于我的灵，以致罪上加罪；起身下埃及去，并没有求问我；要靠法老的力量加添自己的力量，并投在埃及的荫下。所以，法老的力量必作你们的羞辱；投在埃及的荫下，要为你们的惭愧。他们的首领已在琐安；他们的使臣到了哈内斯。他们必因那不利于他们的民蒙羞。那民并非帮助，也非利益，只作羞耻凌辱。”论南方牲畜的默示：他们把财物驮在驴驹的脊背上，将宝物驮在骆驼的肉鞍上，经过艰难困苦之地，就是公狮、母狮、蝮蛇、火焰的飞龙之地，往那不利于他们的民那里去。埃及的帮助是徒然无益的；所以我称她为“坐而不动的拉哈伯”。
