耶和華與、民罹禍患、望爾眷佑、既受扑責、則柔聲下氣、以祈求爾、

彼當寢之際、籲呼於我、中心不誠、和會之時、祈求酒穀、違逆乎我、

彼退縮不前、我則誨之諄諄、彼則聽我藐藐。

彼暴虐挾制居基列、約但東亞摩哩人地之以色列族、歷十八年。亞捫族亦渡約但攻猶大便雅憫以法蓮族、以色列族悚懼、籲耶和華曰、舍我上帝、服事巴力、我實有罪。耶和華諭以色列族曰、我豈非拯爾於埃及人、亞摩哩人、亞捫人、非利士人者乎。昔西頓人、亞馬力人、馬雲人虐爾、爾籲時、我援爾於其手。汝乃棄我、事他上帝、故不復救爾。爾所簡之上帝、爾可籲之、使彼拯爾於難。以色列族曰、我已犯罪、任爾譴責、惟祈今日得救為幸。遂去他上帝、事耶和華。耶和華見以色列族困苦、則中心愀然。

作偶像者、悉為虛妄、其所慕者無益、彼明知其不見不聞、當生愧怍。誰鑄無益之偶像、以像上帝哉、豈非人乎、宜其同儔、咸生愧赧、使彼聚會、屹立於此、必令其戰慄不勝、慙恧無地。鐵工作斧、炭以煆之、鎚以治之、竭一臂之力、使之成器、若其不飲不食、氣力俱廢。木工用準繩、循規矩、運其利器、作人之形、窮極華美、置之於室、伐柏香木以及橡櫟、此皆木之堅者、亦植杉樹、得雨露之養、人取為柴、燃之可以暖體、可以烘餅、復作上帝像、俯伏而拜。材木之半、焚之可以備餚、可以炙肉、食之果腹、向火得暖、人樂以觀火。更有餘木、以製偶像、以像上帝、俯伏而拜、禱曰、誠我上帝、爾其救予、維彼不識不知、其目若塗以泥、其心不明、孰能深思其故、奮然儆醒曰、材木之半、焚之可以烘餅炙肉、而供口腹、則其餘材、豈可作像、拜此可憎之榾柮。彼心昏迷、所望成空、若食燼餘而不悟、不知右手所作、悉屬虛妄。

我使斯民為敵人所驅逐、若風吹草芥、臨難之時、予不眷顧。

殺戮數民、其餘悔改、竭力以求兮、民思至高之上帝、自昔造之、恆復拯之兮、仍進以甘言、貢以媚詞兮、其心未正、其意未誠、不守前約兮、

彼之偶像、金銀而已、人手所雕作兮。有口不言、有目不睹兮、有耳不能聞聲、有鼻不知辨臭兮、有手不可提挈。有足不可步履、有喉舌不可談吐兮、造作之、倚賴之、與彼無異兮、

主耶和華又曰、因爾違逆予、遐棄予、必負爾行淫之罪。

遂導我入耶和華殿內院、我見門內廡下祭壇之間、有二十五人、背耶和華殿、東向拜日、

居利巴嫩人巢於柏香木、爾既臨難、若婦劬勞、豈不哀慘。

野驢其風、放佚曠野、牝求其牡、孰能禁之、追之徒勞、迨其既定、仍必遇之。

崇拜偶像、愚蠢孰甚、欲知其妄、以木為證。

人傾囊、出其金銀、權其輕重、以畀工人、俾鑄上帝像、俯伏崇拜、負之於肩、置諸一所、立而不動、呼而莫應、望其拯難、而彼不能。爾曹陷於罪者、當深思之、其無愧於丈夫。

我必棄斯民、而歸我所、迨其自陳己罪、求沾我恩、窘迫之際、竭力求予。

工人雕木偶、鑄金像、俱屬虛偽、口不能言、作之者亦賴之、何益之有、木石不能言、有求其起而庇佑者、禍必不遠、維彼偶像、雖飾金銀、不通呼吸、焉能有應、
