For this city hath been to me[ as] a provocation of mine anger and of my fury from the day that they built it even unto this day; that I should remove it from before my face,

From the day it was built until now, this city has so aroused my anger and wrath that I must remove it from my sight.

This will happen because the people of this city have aroused my anger and my wrath since the time they built it until now. They have made me so angry that I am determined to remove it from my sight.

And the LORD said, I will remove Judah also out of my sight, as I have removed Israel, and will cast off this city Jerusalem which I have chosen, and the house of which I said, My name shall be there.

Surely at the commandment of the LORD came[ this] upon Judah, to remove[ them] out of his sight, for the sins of Manasseh, according to all that he did;And also for the innocent blood that he shed: for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood; which the LORD would not pardon.

And he built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD said, In Jerusalem will I put my name.And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD.And he made his son pass through the fire, and observed times, and used enchantments, and dealt with familiar spirits and wizards: he wrought much wickedness in the sight of the LORD, to provoke[ him] to anger.And he set a graven image of the grove that he had made in the house, of which the LORD said to David, and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever:

For they prophesy a lie unto you, to remove you far from your land; and that I should drive you out, and ye should perish.

For thus hath the LORD of hosts said, Hew ye down trees, and cast a mount against Jerusalem: this[ is] the city to be visited; she[ is] wholly oppression in the midst of her.As a fountain casteth out her waters, so she casteth out her wickedness: violence and spoil is heard in her; before me continually[ is] grief and wounds.

Moreover Manasseh shed innocent blood very much, till he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another; beside his sin wherewith he made Judah to sin, in doing[ that which was] evil in the sight of the LORD.

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem,[ thou] that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under[ her] wings, and ye would not!

Shall I not visit for these[ things]? saith the LORD: and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end: take away her battlements; for they[ are] not the LORD’S.For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against me, saith the LORD.

Then did Solomon build an high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that[ is] before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon.And likewise did he for all his strange wives, which burnt incense and sacrificed unto their gods.

I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an horrible thing: they commit adultery, and walk in lies: they strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them unto me as Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah.Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts concerning the prophets; Behold, I will feed them with wormwood, and make them drink the water of gall: for from the prophets of Jerusalem is profaneness gone forth into all the land.

Moreover the altar that[ was] at Bethel,[ and] the high place which Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, had made, both that altar and the high place he brake down, and burned the high place,[ and] stamped[ it] small to powder, and burned the grove.

Nevertheless I must walk to day, and to morrow, and the[ day] following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem.O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen[ doth gather] her brood under[ her] wings, and ye would not!

Now, thou son of man, wilt thou judge, wilt thou judge the bloody city? yea, thou shalt shew her all her abominations.Then say thou, Thus saith the Lord GOD, The city sheddeth blood in the midst of it, that her time may come, and maketh idols against herself to defile herself.Thou art become guilty in thy blood that thou hast shed; and hast defiled thyself in thine idols which thou hast made; and thou hast caused thy days to draw near, and art come[ even] unto thy years: therefore have I made thee a reproach unto the heathen, and a mocking to all countries.[ Those that be] near, and[ those that be] far from thee, shall mock thee,[ which art] infamous[ and] much vexed.Behold, the princes of Israel, every one were in thee to their power to shed blood.In thee have they set light by father and mother: in the midst of thee have they dealt by oppression with the stranger: in thee have they vexed the fatherless and the widow.Thou hast despised mine holy things, and hast profaned my sabbaths.In thee are men that carry tales to shed blood: and in thee they eat upon the mountains: in the midst of thee they commit lewdness.In thee have they discovered their fathers’ nakedness: in thee have they humbled her that was set apart for pollution.And one hath committed abomination with his neighbour’s wife; and another hath lewdly defiled his daughter in law; and another in thee hath humbled his sister, his father’s daughter.In thee have they taken gifts to shed blood; thou hast taken usury and increase, and thou hast greedily gained of thy neighbours by extortion, and hast forgotten me, saith the Lord GOD.Behold, therefore I have smitten mine hand at thy dishonest gain which thou hast made, and at thy blood which hath been in the midst of thee.Can thine heart endure, or can thine hands be strong, in the days that I shall deal with thee? I the LORD have spoken[ it], and will do[ it].And I will scatter thee among the heathen, and disperse thee in the countries, and will consume thy filthiness out of thee.And thou shalt take thine inheritance in thyself in the sight of the heathen, and thou shalt know that I[ am] the LORD.And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,Son of man, the house of Israel is to me become dross: all they[ are] brass, and tin, and iron, and lead, in the midst of the furnace; they are[ even] the dross of silver.Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye are all become dross, behold, therefore I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem.[ As] they gather silver, and brass, and iron, and lead, and tin, into the midst of the furnace, to blow the fire upon it, to melt[ it]; so will I gather[ you] in mine anger and in my fury, and I will leave[ you there], and melt you.Yea, I will gather you, and blow upon you in the fire of my wrath, and ye shall be melted in the midst thereof.As silver is melted in the midst of the furnace, so shall ye be melted in the midst thereof; and ye shall know that I the LORD have poured out my fury upon you.

Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof,[ even] all the words of the book which the king of Judah hath read:Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my wrath shall be kindled against this place, and shall not be quenched.

Jerusalem hath grievously sinned; therefore she is removed: all that honoured her despise her, because they have seen her nakedness: yea, she sigheth, and turneth backward.
