Wherefore gloriest thou in the valleys, thy flowing valley, O backsliding daughter? that trusted in her treasures, saying, Who shall come unto me?

背道的民哪，你们为何因有山谷，就是水流的山谷夸张呢？为何倚靠财宝说：‘谁能来到我们这里呢？’

背道的民哪，你为何因有山谷，因有水流的山谷夸耀呢？为何倚靠自己的财宝，说：“谁能来到我们这里呢？”

背道的民哪，你为何因有山谷，因有水流的山谷夸耀呢？为何倚靠自己的财宝，说：“谁能来到我们这里呢？”

背叛的人民啊，你们为肥沃的山谷而感到自豪吗？你们依仗财富以为无人敢来侵犯。”

背道的居民（“居民”原文作“女子”）哪！你们为什么因有山谷，就是你们那肥沃的山谷而夸口呢？你们十分倚靠自己的财宝，说：‘有谁敢来攻击我们呢？’

轉離正道的人哪，你倚靠你自己的財寶，說：「誰能來攻擊我呢？」為甚麼因有山谷、就是你那有水流着的山谷、而誇口呢？

背逆之女歟、奚為誇爾流水之谷、爾恃財寶曰、誰克至我、

違逆之女、居於膏腴之谷、詡詡然以為已得貨財、無人犯我四境、然爾不可矜誇。

Why do you boast of your valleys, boast of your valleys so fruitful? Unfaithful Daughter Ammon, you trust in your riches and say,‘ Who will attack me?’

Why do you brag about your valleys? You brag that they produce so many crops. Ammon, you are an unfaithful country. You trust in your riches. You say,‘ Who will attack me?’

Why do you boast of your valleys, O faithless daughter, who trusted in her treasures, saying,‘ Who will come against me?’

You are proud of your fertile valleys, but they will soon be ruined. You trusted in your wealth, you rebellious daughter, and thought no one could ever harm you.

Why do you boast about your valleys, your flowing valley, you faithless daughter— you who trust in your treasures and say,“ Who can attack me?”

How you boast about the valleys! Your valley is flowing away, You backsliding daughter Who trusts in her treasures, saying,‘ Who can come against me?’

Why do you boast in the valleys, Your flowing valley, O backsliding daughter? Who trusted in her treasures, saying,‘ Who will come against me?’

Why do you brag about your valleys, your flowing valley, you faithless daughter? You who trust in your treasures and boast,“ Who can attack me?”

Wherefore gloriest thou in the valleys, thy flowing valley, O backsliding daughter? that trusted in her treasures,[ saying], Who shall come unto me?

Why do you brag about your great power? Your power is ebbing away, you rebellious people of Ammon, who trust in your riches and say,‘ Who would dare to attack us?’

Why do you boast in the valleys, your flowing valley, backsliding daughter? You trusted in her treasures, saying,‘ Who will come to me?’

Charge them that are rich in this present world, that they be not highminded, nor have their hope set on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;

Behold, I am against thee, O inhabitant of the valley, and of the rock of the plain, saith Jehovah; you that say, Who shall come down against us? or who shall enter into our habitations?

Thus saith Jehovah, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches;

They that trust in their wealth, And boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;

Return, O backsliding children, saith Jehovah; for I am a husband unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion.

Trust not in oppression, And become not vain in robbery: If riches increase, set not your heart thereon.

For, because thou hast trusted in thy works and in thy treasures, thou also shalt be taken: and Chemosh shall go forth into captivity, his priests and his princes together.

Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength, But trusted in the abundance of his riches, And strengthened himself in his wickedness.

by thy wisdom and by thine understanding thou hast gotten thee riches, and hast gotten gold and silver into thy treasures;by thy great wisdom and by thy traffic hast thou increased thy riches, and thy heart is lifted up because of thy riches;—therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Because thou hast set thy heart as the heart of God,therefore, behold, I will bring strangers upon thee, the terrible of the nations; and they shall draw their swords against the beauty of thy wisdom, and they shall defile thy brightness.

How much soever she glorified herself, and waxed wanton, so much give her of torment and mourning: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall in no wise see mourning.

As for thy terribleness, the pride of thy heart hath deceived thee, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, that holdest the height of the hill: though thou shouldest make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith Jehovah.

And thou saidst, I shall be mistress for ever; so that thou didst not lay these things to thy heart, neither didst remember the latter end thereof.Now therefore hear this, thou that art given to pleasures, that sittest securely, that sayest in thy heart, I am, and there is none else besides me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children:

But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in their own counsels and in the stubbornness of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.

The rich man’s wealth is his strong city: The destruction of the poor is their poverty.

Though thou mount on high as the eagle, and though thy nest be set among the stars, I will bring thee down from thence, saith Jehovah.If thieves came to thee, if robbers by night( how art thou cut off!), would they not steal only till they had enough? if grape- gatherers came to thee, would they not leave some gleaning grapes?

Woe to the crown of pride of the drunkards of Ephraim, and to the fading flower of his glorious beauty, which is on the head of the fat valley of them that are overcome with wine!Behold, the Lord hath a mighty and strong one; as a tempest of hail, a destroying storm, as a tempest of mighty waters overflowing, will he cast down to the earth with the hand.The crown of pride of the drunkards of Ephraim shall be trodden under foot:and the fading flower of his glorious beauty, which is on the head of the fat valley, shall be as the first- ripe fig before the summer; which when he that looketh upon it seeth, while it is yet in his hand he eateth it up.

For Israel hath behaved himself stubbornly, like a stubborn heifer: now will Jehovah feed them as a lamb in a large place.
