背道的民哪，你们为何因有山谷，就是水流的山谷夸张呢？为何倚靠财宝说：‘谁能来到我们这里呢？’

背道的民哪，你为何因有山谷，因有水流的山谷夸耀呢？为何倚靠自己的财宝，说：“谁能来到我们这里呢？”

背叛的人民啊，你们为肥沃的山谷而感到自豪吗？你们依仗财富以为无人敢来侵犯。”

轉離正道的人哪，你倚靠你自己的財寶，說：「誰能來攻擊我呢？」為甚麼因有山谷、就是你那有水流着的山谷、而誇口呢？

背逆之女歟、奚為誇爾流水之谷、爾恃財寶曰、誰克至我、

違逆之女、居於膏腴之谷、詡詡然以為已得貨財、無人犯我四境、然爾不可矜誇。

Why do you boast of your valleys, boast of your valleys so fruitful? Unfaithful Daughter Ammon, you trust in your riches and say,‘ Who will attack me?’

Why do you brag about your valleys? You brag that they produce so many crops. Ammon, you are an unfaithful country. You trust in your riches. You say,‘ Who will attack me?’

Why do you boast of your valleys, O faithless daughter, who trusted in her treasures, saying,‘ Who will come against me?’

You are proud of your fertile valleys, but they will soon be ruined. You trusted in your wealth, you rebellious daughter, and thought no one could ever harm you.

Why do you boast about your valleys, your flowing valley, you faithless daughter— you who trust in your treasures and say,“ Who can attack me?”

Why do you boast in the valleys, Your flowing valley, O backsliding daughter? Who trusted in her treasures, saying,‘ Who will come against me?’

Wherefore gloriest thou in the valleys, thy flowing valley, O backsliding daughter? that trusted in her treasures, saying, Who shall come unto me?

Why do you brag about your valleys, your flowing valley, you faithless daughter? You who trust in your treasures and boast,“ Who can attack me?”

Why do you brag about your great power? Your power is ebbing away, you rebellious people of Ammon, who trust in your riches and say,‘ Who would dare to attack us?’

Why do you boast in the valleys, your flowing valley, backsliding daughter? You trusted in her treasures, saying,‘ Who will come to me?’

Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to set their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy.

“ Behold, I am against you, you inhabitant of the valley, You rocky plain,” declares the Lord,“ You who say,‘ Who will come down against us? Or who will enter our dwellings?’

This is what the Lord says:“ Let no wise man boast of his wisdom, nor let the mighty man boast of his might, nor a rich man boast of his riches;

Those who trust in their wealth And boast in the abundance of their riches?

‘ Return, you faithless sons,’ declares the Lord;‘ For I am a master to you, And I will take you, one from a city and two from a family, And bring you to Zion.’

Do not trust in oppression, And do not vainly rely on robbery; If wealth increases, do not set your heart on it.

For because of your trust in your own achievements and treasures, You yourself will also be captured; And Chemosh will go off into exile Together with his priests and his leaders.

“ Behold, the man who would not make God his refuge, But trusted in the abundance of his riches And was strong in his evil desire.”

By your wisdom and understanding You have acquired riches for yourself And have acquired gold and silver for your treasuries.By your great wisdom, by your trade You have increased your riches, And your heart is haughty because of your riches—Therefore this is what the Lord God says:‘ Because you have made your heart Like the heart of God,Therefore, behold, I am going to bring strangers against you, The most ruthless of the nations. And they will draw their swords Against the beauty of your wisdom And profane your splendor.

To the extent that she glorified herself and lived luxuriously, to the same extent give her torment and mourning; for she says in her heart,‘ I sit as a queen and I am not a widow, and will never see mourning.’

As for the terror you cause, The arrogance of your heart has deceived you, You who live in the clefts of the rock, Who occupy the height of the hill. Though you make your nest as high as an eagle’s, I will bring you down from there,” declares the Lord.

Yet you said,‘ I will be a queen forever.’ These things you did not consider Nor remember the outcome of them.“ Now, then, hear this, you luxuriant one, Who lives securely, Who says in her heart,‘ I am, and there is no one besides me. I will not sit as a widow, Nor know the loss of children.’

Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but walked by their own advice and in the stubbornness of their evil hearts, and they went backward and not forward.

The rich person’s wealth is his fortress, The ruin of the poor is their poverty.

Though you make your home high like the eagle, Though you set your nest among the stars, From there I will bring you down,” declares the Lord.“ If thieves came to you, If robbers by night— Oh how you will be ruined!— Would they not steal only until they had enough? If grape pickers came to you, Would they not leave some gleanings?

Woe to the proud crown of the habitually drunk of Ephraim, And to the fading flower of its glorious beauty, Which is at the head of the fertile valley Of those who are overcome with wine!Behold, the Lord has a strong and mighty agent; As a storm of hail, a tempest of destruction, Like a storm of mighty overflowing waters, He has thrown it down to the earth with His hand.The splendid crown of the habitually drunk of Ephraim is trampled underfoot.And the fading flower of its glorious beauty, Which is at the head of the fertile valley, Will be like the first ripe fig prior to the summer, Which one sees, And as soon as it is in his hand, He swallows it.

Since Israel is stubborn Like a stubborn cow, Will the Lord now pasture them Like a lamb in a large field?
