I thought,“ Surely it is only the ignorant poor who act this way. They act like fools because they do not know what the LORD demands. They do not know what their God requires of them.

I thought,“ These are only the poor; they are foolish, for they do not know the way of the Lord, the requirements of their God.

I thought,“ The people of Jerusalem are foolish. They don’t know how the Lord wants them to live. They don’t know what their God requires of them.

Then I said,“ These are only the poor; they have no sense; for they do not know the way of the Lord, the justice of their God.

Then I said,“ But what can we expect from the poor? They are ignorant. They don’t know the ways of the Lord. They don’t understand God’s laws.

Then I thought: They are just the poor; they have been foolish. For they don’t understand the way of the LORD, the justice of their God.

Then I said,“ They are only the poor, They are foolish; For they do not know the way of the Lord Or the judgment of their God.

Therefore I said,“ Surely these are poor. They are foolish; For they do not know the way of the Lord, The judgment of their God.

Then I said, Surely these are poor; they are foolish; for they know not the way of Jehovah, nor the law of their God:

Then I thought: They are just the poor; they have played the fool. For they don’t understand the way of the Lord, the justice of their God.

Therefore I said, Surely these[ are] poor; they are foolish: for they know not the way of the LORD,[ nor] the judgment of their God.

Then I said,“ Surely these are poor. They are foolish; for they don’t know the Yahweh’s way, nor the law of their God.

You have destroyed my people by failing to acknowledge me! Because you refuse to acknowledge me, I will reject you as my priests. Because you reject the law of your God, I will reject your descendants.

Even the stork knows when it is time to move on. The turtledove, swallow, and crane recognize the normal times for their migration. But my people pay no attention to what I, the LORD, require of them.

Who is the LORD trying to teach? To whom is he explaining a message? Those just weaned from milk! Those just taken from their mother’s breast!Indeed, they will hear meaningless gibberish, senseless babbling, a syllable here, a syllable there.For with mocking lips and a foreign tongue he will speak to these people.In the past he said to them,“ This is where security can be found. Provide security for the one who is exhausted! This is where rest can be found.” But they refused to listen.So the LORD’s word to them will sound like meaningless gibberish, senseless babbling, a syllable here, a syllable there. As a result, they will fall on their backsides when they try to walk, and be injured, ensnared, and captured.

The blind see, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have good news proclaimed to them.

When its branches get brittle, they break; women come and use them for kindling. For these people lack understanding, therefore the one who made them has no compassion on them; the one who formed them has no mercy on them.

The LORD answered,“ This will happen because my people are foolish. They do not know me. They are like children who have no sense. They have no understanding. They are skilled at doing evil. They do not know how to do good.”

None of the rulers or the Pharisees have believed in him, have they?But this rabble who do not know the law are accursed!”

“‘ But just look at you! You are putting your confidence in a false belief that will not deliver you.
