Therefore this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says:“ I will punish the king of Babylon and his land as I punished the king of Assyria.

The Lord who rules over all is the God of Israel. He says,“ I punished the king of Assyria. In the same way, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land.

Therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I am bringing punishment on the king of Babylon and his land, as I punished the king of Assyria.

Therefore, this is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says:“ Now I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, just as I punished the king of Assyria.

看哪！亚述曾是黎巴嫩的香柏树，枝条秀美，林影茂密，树身高大，树顶在茂密的枝叶之上。众水使它长大，深渊使它长高；有江河从深渊流出环绕它栽种之地，又有支流延到田间的众树。因此，它树身高大，高过田间的众树；它发旺生长的时候，因为水源丰足，所以枝子繁多，枝条长长。空中的飞鸟都在枝上搭窝；田野的走兽都在枝条下生产；所有大国都在它的树荫下居住。它树身高大，枝条长长而显得秀美，因为它的根扎在水多的地方。神园中的香柏树不能与它相比，松树比不上它的枝子；枫树也不及它的枝条；神园中所有的树木都比不上它的秀美。我使它因枝条繁多而显得秀美，以致在神的园中，伊甸所有的树木都嫉妒它。“‘因此，主耶和华这样说：因为它树身高大，树顶在茂密的枝叶之上，又因它高大而心骄气傲，我就把它交在列国中为首的人手中，他必定对付它；因着它的罪恶，我就把它驱逐出去。必有外族人，就是列国中最强暴的，把它砍下丢弃。它的枝叶落在山上和所有的谷中；它的枝子折断，落在地上所有的水沟里；地上的万族都必走离它的荫下，把它丢弃。空中的飞鸟都住在倒下的树身上，田野的走兽都卧在它的枝条间。好使水旁所有的树木都不会因树身高大而自高，也不会使树顶长到茂密的枝叶上，又使一切有水滋润的树都不会高傲地屹立；因为他们在世人中，与那些下到阴府的人一起，都交与死亡、交与地的深处了。“‘主耶和华这样说：它下阴间的日子，我就因它以悲哀遮盖深渊，阻塞深渊的江河，使大水停流；我要使黎巴嫩为它悲伤、田野所有的树木都因它枯干。我把它扔下阴间，与那些下到阴府的人一起的时候，我就使列国因它坠落的响声而震惊。伊甸所有的树木，就是黎巴嫩有水滋润、最佳最美的树，都在地的深处得到安慰。这些树与它一同下到阴间，往那些被刀剑所杀的人那里去。他们作过它的膀臂，曾在列国中住在它的荫下。

耶和华必伸手攻击北方，毁灭亚述，使尼尼微变成荒场，干旱像旷野。群畜和各类的走兽必躺卧在其中；鹈鹕和箭猪栖宿在柱顶上；窗内有鸣叫的声音，门槛上必有荒凉；因为香柏木都要暴露出来。这就是那欢乐安居之城，她心里曾说：“只有我，除我以外，再没有别的了。”现在怎么竟成了荒场、走兽躺卧之处呢！凡从那里经过的，都必舞手嗤笑。

以下是对尼尼微的宣判，就是伊勒歌斯人那鸿的异象录。耶和华是嫉恶和施行报复的神；耶和华施行报复，并且满怀烈怒；耶和华向他的对头施行报复，向他的仇敌怀怒。耶和华不轻易发怒，可是大有能力；他绝不以有罪的为无罪。耶和华乘着狂风暴雨而来，云彩是他脚下的尘土。

于是耶和华的使者出去，在亚述营中击杀了十八万五千人；到了早晨，有人起来，所见的都是死尸。亚述王西拿基立就拔营离去，返回本地，住在尼尼微。他在自己的神尼斯洛庙里叩拜的时候，他的儿子亚得米勒和沙利色用刀杀了他，然后逃到亚拉腊地。他的儿子以撒哈顿接续他作王。
